Spoiler:
UTG+1 holds 9s Th

Turn brings my backdoor flush door, but the river bricks.

Is this a realy bad play from me? I figured I had the very last of my fold equity here and that maybe 33% of the time I would take it down there and then.

If called I would have at least 6 outs and possibly the backdoor flush draw. Obviously I didnt want a call!

This was my first hand on this table after my previous table broke.

A move born out of sheer desperation/panic! I figured if I check raised I would have absolutely NO fold equity, and if i were to bet 1/2, 1/3 pot I would be pot committed anyway. Hence my decision to overbet jam.

The average stack was about 40,000. Folding here would have left me 18k. My shove got me a 33% shot of attaining 50,000. The math says i needed a 40% shot. But, that math is only for this particular result.

Thanks for any thoughts/advice.

No fold equity here so probably xf myself.

I don't hate the play - I think there is some fold equity albeit very small and I think there's a place for trying to gamble a bit when you're short stacked and there's tons of money out there in the middle. This play would be better in a turbo structure or if the blinds are about to go up etc.

My preference would be to check/fold though, there should be better spots that come up in the next orbit or two.

Use all your fold equity and just shove pre.

I don't like shoving pre - these sort of people are likely to call really wide because they're fish and us shoving such a weak hand basically justifies how they're playing.

Then play it the way you did. You start the hand with 9bb, it's not like you have many options here. Shove pre or shove the flop if you get a piece. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.
