I had around 150bb and I bet 4xbb and I get an all in from MP and I called and I lose to KJ and I had JTo. He went all in with roughly 16k and the blinds are 250-500, no ante. I figure I had around 90-100k so I called because I might be oddswise around 3-2 if he had something like KQ and a coin flip if he had medium to low pocket pair. I called around 12k, was this a bad call? I feel neutral on this. This was a small undergound tourney with about 22 people and a few rebuys and top 2 get paid. buy in $40 plus $5 add on. prize pool was later announced at around $600.

Let me get this straight. You opened 4x with JTo and villain shoved 30bb over the top? That's some crazy raise-sizing going on there.

But figure it out this way. You have to call 14k into a pot of 16750, which means you need about 45% equity to make this call. When you assign him a reasonable shoving range, do you think you have anywhere near 45%? If you assign him a shoving range 33+, A4s+, KTs+, A8+, KJ+, you only have 36% equity. In order to get the 45% equity you need, villain has to be shoving as wide as 55% of hands. So yes, it was a bad call.

That's some loose call and game . I have to say easy lay down for J-10o. Looks like you raised 4xbb in early position with marginal hand, someone shoves. Just lay it down, save your chips for better spots no?

Yeah your probably right, but it was a 4k bet by me and a 16k all in and I only had to call for 12k to knock him out. I was still probably a bad call. I had a pretty big stack. thanks

Yeah your probably right but I made an error, it was a 4 k opening bet by me and i think the bb was around 800. and he went all in for 16k, so i had to call only 12k more to win a pot 20k.

Wait, did you open 4xbb or 8xbb? 8*500=4000.

8xbb with 500bb or 5xbb with 800bb, but it was 4k bet that is for sure. I know it was a big bet but i had a huge stack(biggest stack) and people like to call at these tourneys so i charge them more

If people like to call why are you raising trash hands in ep and for absurd sizes where you now need to have them fold even more often. Just fold your trash hands in ep.

I can't remember for sure but I might of been on the button or sb, so guess the guy limped in for roughly 800, but I might of been in ep1 or later and in that case your probably right.

As others have said... Don't raise this much & definitely don't call that large of a bet with a hand like this.
