What kind of samplesizes do i need to be sure if im a winner in mtts?

I have profits in mtts but my graphs just look like huge downswings, except for a couple big wins that puts me in the green...



Im guessing this is a really small sample for mtts and means nothing?



Im not a winning player either, in the beginning of this year i decided to quit my job and give poker a shot, the plan was to grind cashgames and play sunday majors with the FPP but i failed to beat the cashgames





I really dont know what my next move should be, do i wanna continue poker or just get a job, i havent made any money in the last couple of months playing poker.

Last sunday warmup i was like 3rd in chips with like 40 players left, eventually busted 28th after losing a ton of setup flips in the end.

Ofcourse if i won the flips and got 130k$ for first i wouldnt be making this topic now would i? Id be this "great" tournament player and probably have people asking me to coach them.


How will i know if im just a losing poker player who just happened to run good in a couple of donkaments to get a profit, or if my style somehow works in the donkaments but not in cashgames? what kind of samplesizes do i need to be certain? I really did give cashgames a serious shot, i really gave it my all, i just cant beat them...




Serious advice would be nice...

Estimating your "true" winrate from a sample is a tricky subject. People use statistical tools to work this out. Looking at your graph, it's pretty clear you don't have a large enough sample to say very well which side of 0 EV you probably would be in the long run.

Do you have a big stomach for math? I could point you at some threads and books, but it will mean thinking about standard deviation, confidence intervals, and algebra.

Looking at your cash graph, the big story is your showdown winnings versus non-showdown winnings. I don't know what stakes you play, but it is highly unusual to be losing all your money at showdown at micro and low stakes. Stop trying to buy so many pots, and make your money by extracting value from your strong hands.
