Is this a fishy play? Is this a fishy play?

Hello everyone. I'm new to posting, so if this not in the correct section, I am sorry.

This hand was played in a world tavern poker event. No money, but points awarded. It was a mid-season TOC, so folks wanted to do well. The villian in this hand was know to try to steal pots, and was relatively loose. We where on the points bubble, and I started the hand with 7BB's, at $2k a BB. I thought this was a good play to try to steal the pot. My thinking was he would fold anything but top pair on this board. I had a tight image thus far. His demeanor completing from the small blind was like he was between a fold and a grudging call. He had Jh6c.

Is this a +ev play overall? Are did I blow it pretty bad.

Thanks for any thoughts, and if this isn't the correct place to post this, I am sorry, and will post in the correct place in the future.

I don't mind the raise but it's not to steal the pot - you're not going to get him to fold any better hands than yours.

Your raise is for value/protection vs any random non pair hands he has.

My thought was he would fold anything less than top pair on that board. You don't think that's the case? I didn't think he would call half his stack with less than top. I even thought random 3X and 7x hands would fold with the J out there.

Spand42, thanks for the response!
