Hello everybody. I am 36 years old and I have played poker on-line (mostly SnG Mtt 45-180players) for 9 month. Today I played my first live poker tourney 97 players. Deepstack. 14 levels - 30 minutes. I did not play very well, but I won few hands and stole few blinds. I got busted around 40ish players left. One hand won't let me sleep thou and I would like to ask for opinion.

8 handed game. it was around 3rd hour of play.
Hero 30BB in middle position min rised 2bb with A 7
Villan 75bb calls from bb.

Flops is 6 A 7

Villan instant all-in.

Hero folded.

I was playing quite nervous as everything was new to me (so far I played only on internet and some home games) He obviously knew I was 'fresh'. I won one hand against him before thou (he was really angry about it). I could not work out what he had, a set? Set would have bet small or checked surely? Flush draw? Two pair? As I said I could not work it out and folded - I still question this as I think it was strange play by him. Can you please advice what would be a correct play here and what you think he had?

Thanks and great forum btw!

Welcome to the forum!

As played it's a call, doubt anyone will tell you otherwise.

Spoiler:
Stealing blinds isn't very useful in live tourneys people are too loose (At least not the games I play). My live tourney strat is basically to play tight and try and pick up a big hand and double up. When stack get down to 20-30bb try and find a spot to 3 bet shove or squeeze the limpers. B/C ur playing tight people will give u credit. Someone once open folded QQ to my 20bb shove and I had J9s lol. One more thing to keep in mind in live tourneys (again the ones I go to) pay top 10% where online is closer to top 17% so you have to be willing to take more risks. GL

First time live, 50-100 blinds I tried to 3-bet with AKo and made it 3.5k instead of like 1k or whatever, so it happens to everyone.

As played, you should call, not sure why you're raising A7o just to fold top two, fold pre or snap. Villain most likely had 6x of clubs or some worse two pair, obviously its harder to throw the chips in and risk being embarrassed live but that shouldn't deter you from making good plays. Either way, you will look back on this in a year or two and have a good laugh, welcome to 2p2 my man.

That's a fist pump/snap call!!

The only hand he could logically have that would beat you is 66, aa and 77 are unlikely because you have blockers so I would say he could have had a flush draw (maybe with a pair like 68cc) or a bigger ace.
Bad fold but learn from it and hopefully play against him again.

Thanks Guys for great input.

I really don't know why I folded - it is really embarrassing as on-line I would have snap called as well - I just overthought it or I am just rubbish Shame really.

By the way I was really surprised how loose the game was - maybe as somebody mentioned it is because pay structure in Live games is different and one have to take more risks.

I can't wait till next time I play poker live now.

That's a terrible fold, but don't beat yourself up about it - live games can feel very intimidating when you're not used to it. I made similar folds myself when I think back to Vegas trips I took in the past. The important thing is to learn from it. The most important thing is to slow things down and think through the situation. If you find the environment is making you feel nervous, close your eyes while you think to block out the environment. Confidence comes with experience.

Whilst it's a bad fold you should feel good that you recognised it was a mistake

That and opening an account on 2+2 are positive signs!

Wouldn't be opening A7o there too much to start with mind

I don't see how this is a snap call?

There's about 32BB in the pot? and we have to call 28BB?

Okay we have a nice hand, but this is a huge overbet and from what I've read these bets usually mean strength.
If villain bluffs like this, we can just wait for a better spot, although this spot is pretty good if we think villain could be bluffing here.

I would assume villain is betting for value here most of the time though.
Since we need to win 50% of the times we call here, I'm not sure if we can call?

We've commited only 2BB, just let the hand go?

Ofcourse if we have seen villain do this before or we have some other reason(s) to think he might be doing this with marginal hands or as a bluff, it does become a snap call.
Not without any further info imo though.

Thank you very much for the feedback. Tips about how to concentrate were very helpful.

I have been thinking about this hand since. I still don't know what he could have been shoving with. Table was loose and my image was rather poor player so he could have shoved with bluff to try to bully me or try to capitalize thinking I might be tempted to call with top pair. 100% he did not put me on 2 pair though.

Shame I can't have 2nd go at it

there are some hands that i can say "better/correct play will be this", but in this hand i can't say "snap call" without knowing his and your playing history. but i can tell this, if i were you, i could sleep well Your fold is not a leak.
