Bet the flop please, don't slow play TPTK, when there is value to be had.

Results:

He called my raise, I showed, he mucked.

Of course the result doesn't necessarily vindicate this play as being a good one.

However it's certainly not bad 100% of the time.

I posted this cause I knew this toed the line between "thin" and "just plain bad", so wanted to get some opinions.

Thanks

You're gonna make fun of me but I can't figure out how to do that.

I have HM2...

It's really been perplexing me so maybe you can explain it to me.

Given the stack sizes I don't mind the 3-bet pre flop. The size of the bet is probably the minimum you should 3-bet in that spot but I don't mind the size you made it as if you make it say 450-600 you are getting folds from alot of hands you dominate.
I really don't like the flop check though in position. This is surely a perfect opportunity to c-bet regardless of the flushy board. Alot of weaker kings and medium pairs are calling the c-bet.
On the turn, after the line you've already taken I think the call is pretty standard. But the worst part of all is the river. I absolutely hate this raise as you very rarely get a hand your beating to call. Sure you can fold to a re-raise but why give villain that opportunity?

Overall you took a very strange line, but it somehow paid off. 3/10

I guess no one else ever occasionally takes unorthodox lines eh?

I'm not a fan of playing the same hand the same exact way 100% of the time; it's boring (not to mention predictable).

This analysis might end up being +fun, and there's something to be said for that, but it's prob -EV.

0 chance the line itself is -ev. it may or may not be the most +ev but it's 100% NOT -ev at these or any stakes

Why 480 pre? Why?

Why make it 8bb to go when we are hundreds of BB deep? It makes no sense to me.

I want him calling with A6. I want him calling with KJ. The only reason I 3 bet at all is I want to thin the herd a little bit, I don't want to play against 6 opponents here.

Making it 480 serves to bloat the pot to a point where if I miss the flop it makes my c-bet amount unnecessarily uncomfortable.

I see this all the time here, people just kind of arbitrarily saying we should have made the pf 3-bet bigger, but I really never see any logic behind it.

"Don't wanna give him the right odds to call with atc" doesn't make sense to me. I want to play pots with deep stacks and big hands in position against villains with garbage cards that I can outplay postflop.

That's exactly what we do with AK, we build the pot in value with the position advantage. 4xing is totally standard with the huge effective stack. You will have often 1 caller minimum (c'mon...) If this sizing pre gives you headache while you have >150bb, you have probably some leaks that would be the reason of your "discomfort" postflop.

The sizing doesn't "bother" me per se.

Just think I stand more of a chance to get more value by going a little smaller, that's all. And it's situation/flow/villain dependent of course. Sometimes I would raise this up bigger, sometimes flat, sometimes do what I did here.

Also smallish 3 bets with monsters allows me to 3bet light less expensively while still staying balanced...

Just preference I suppose

I wasn't referring to this line specifically, I'm referring to deliberately playing unorthodox just cuz you want to mix it up. If there's a standard line that is generally assumed to be the best EV and you choose to veer from it, just cuz, then it's -EV vs standard lines.
