MP Vill= 18/14 over 1000 hands

PREFLOP: MP(68bb) opens 2.5bb , HERO-hijack (47bb) 3bets AQo 5.5bb [stacks behind were all 43bb+], MP 4bets 13bb, HERO folds

Good sample size on vill, he had been playing splashy the past few orbits.

Decided to 3bet because (a) vill's sizing and image led me to think he was light, leading me to want to iso-3bet him here a bit wider with AQo, and (b) I thought that flatting such a small sizing would induce multiple callers behind. I may have flatted if vill used a 3x-4x open sizing.

So would you prefer a flat or 3bet when facing the original open?

Also, how do you do react to vill's 4bet?

A few things;

I think it would make more sense to 3-bet light if you believe someone is opening light. AQ seems much too strong to value 3 bet if you think someone is weak. More than likely they're just going fold. I'd much rather 3 bet w a garbage hand (and probably 3 bet larger... maybe 5.9 bb's to 6.2 bb's) and try and take it down pf.

I think your other logic is correct though, (flatting a small size would induce multiple callers and just flatting to a larger open.) I would probably also flat if it were a larger open. But it also depends on what opponents standard raise size is; if they are min opening, and then suddenly 4x it, I'd just call and play very cautiously.

With all that being said, I think the 3 bet is fine. I wouldn't always 3-bet, a call is okay sometimes too. It depends on many other factors.

forgot to mention, I'd most likely fold to 4-bet.

If i 3bet, sizing will be between 6,5BB - 7,5BB. I fold vs 4bet. 1k sample is enough to be sure how tight he is. I don't iso 18/14 players with AQ.

Do you have numbers on him? There's a difference b/w the splashy player who has too many 3 and 4b, and one who raise/calls. If he's raise/calling to 3bets, then 3bet him all day in position. And yeah, if he's r/c your 3b, then increase the 3b size to milk him for more.

His vpip/pfr aren't the only important stats here. Check out his 4b, fold to 3b, and calling 3b stats. Yeah, he's tight and aggro, but if he folds 50% of his raising range to your 3b, then 3betting him here with AQ is going to be VERY profitable. That being said, when he 4bets, this is an easy fold.
