Does UP really think that they should be making decisions for their players? They decided to change the way the software looked--- different fonts, different card-backs, etc. How did that work out? Was that a good idea? It took two months for us to be able to clearly see which players were in a hand again. They made a decision when they didn't need to--- they could have let their players choose between the new-look and the old, and it wouldn't have been difficult to do.
If UP chooses to develop BOTH options each time, eventually they will have a feature-rich piece of software. Is it really more difficult to have a checkbox selecting "invert mousewheel"?
There is no reason for UP to try to satisfy the majority, when they have the option to satisfy everybody (with very little added work).
If Dax was asking which should be the default setting (which wasn't at all clear), then that is great. Maybe UP is learning from its mistakes-- maybe they will finally give us the other options that are lacking (sound, visual, no pop-ups, etc.). But from Dax's post and UP's short history, it would be a big assumption to make.
Thanks for the feedback. I think we're on the same page, as far as choosing the "best" way to do things. I'd love a feature-rich piece of software that is endlessly customizable. However.. The answer to this:

In a nutshell is that yes, it actually is a little bit more difficult to have both ways of doing things with a preference to select it. It's not that the design of this is difficult, it's that the implementation would take a little bit longer. Our guideline in the product world has been to deliver 80% of the benefit in 20% of the time. I want to get you an improvement, now, today, right now, immediately. I want to say SOON less.
We're aware that there are some downsides to our software that will take time to improve, but I don't think there's any question our software looks and works better now than it did 8 months ago. We balance the things we can't control with the things we can, which is why our rake is cheaper, our promotions are better, and our customer service is comprised of local guys and girls who are pretty excellent at their jobs, imho.
