Not sure what happened to all my photos?? They're still showing in my account - but Photobucket's suddenly asking for US$399 a year to get them to show in posts again. lol It feels like there must be some sort of mistake?

Wrote them a message, so will see what they say. Still haven't heard back yet from the bitcoin exchange either

Giving imgur a try instead now

Here's some pics from my daily jog while in California - the second one's an orange tree!

Hopefully imgur won't start demanding US$399 a year in 5 year's time like Photobucket is?

New Q3 Investment - Priceline (PCLN)

Guess Priceline's not as big as Expedia in North America - but this article from Motley Fool, and the Zack's Research Report from 6 months ago says they also have some search engines in Europe and Asia, and they do bookings through agents, and make money from ads too?

Canada 150

In other news, it's Canada's 150th Birthday next week - and the celebrations have seen so far have been decidedly Canadian ...
There's special donuts ...

Beer packs ...

And even burgers

Guess donuts, beer, and burgers pretty much describes what we're about Every year there's Canada Day celebrations with fireworks and all that - but wasn't surprised to see this report saying lots of people are on the move this year, in search of something a little more special to do ...
http://globalnews.ca/news/3542471/wh...ts-not-ottawa/

Guess the neatest thing have heard about so far in Toronto is this Blue Jays game where the first 20,000 people get a free jersey! Although that's not until the end of the month ...

Have never been to Vancouver - wonder if they're going to be having special celebrations next week?

It's only been summer for 2 days, and it's already started to get more hot and humid. Usually don't have much of a sweet tooth - but sometimes in the summertime, ice cream can sure start to look tempting

A couple of years ago, over the top ice cream became a really big thing in my city

And then in addition to over the top stuff, guess there's lots of different flavours available? Like saffron ice cream from Iran, purple sweet potato from the Philippines, and black sesame from Korea?

Not so sure about the over the top ice cream - because it's like 5 desserts in one! lol ... but maybe it might be fun to give a new flavour a try sometime this summer? Will see

Really hope the weather next week is as beautiful as it was today

There's lots of nice hiking and biking trails within an hour's drive of the city - it seems like enjoying nature might be a fun way to celebrate 150?

Finally heard back from both photobucket and the bitcoin exchange - guess the high resolution of my dancing doggie gif ate up something like a thousand times the amount of my usual bandwidth ... so my account hit its limit for the month? So worth it though, because it was such an entertaining gif

Am hoping the counter resets at the beginning of the month, and all the pics will start showing again?

And then the money's showing in my bitcoin account now - going to take a break and have some strawberries for dessert, but here's some photos from today of a park on the outskirts of town. Quite a variety of different vegetation within a couple of square kms - spotted some pretty wildflowers, and there was a forest trail ... the worn patch on the grass in the third photo was actually the edge of an overlook to a river down below, but was too afraid to get that close to the edge

Was surprised to see that people are still farming within the city limits. Wouldn't be surprised if much of the land gets turned into condos within the next decade or two?

Saw a couple of pieces about bitcoin in the news over the weekend ...

An early believer

And here's someone who's seems a bit more skeptical?

Once my deposit to the bitcoin exchange got stalled, guess my bitcoin research kind of stalled along with it Will maybe try to do a little more before making my purchase - hopefully the price doesn't skyrocket tomorrow, while am looking things over a little more!

Trying to Learn How to 'Buy Low' and avoid 'Buying High' - Bubbles vs Growth

So have been actively investing now for almost 6 months - pretty pleased to have not gone busto! yet Guess a couple of months ago, had started noticing how many of those common beginner mistakes have been making that all the more experienced investors warn beginners not to make - like buying high?

Maybe what can make buying low so difficult is that it can be hard to tell in the moment if a high is really a high, or if it's as low as something's ever going to get because the price is never going to stop growing? Or if a low is truly a low, or if it's actually a high because the price is never going to stop falling?

Have tried looking at fundamentals, like what makes something valuable, and what might cause it to lose value. And have no idea what to expect from gold in the short or long term - guess people liked to buy it when gas was expensive, and inflation was high? Although tried buying it when inflation was expected to rise, and wound up losing money

It *seems* like Amazon should do well in the short and long term? But there's people who look at it's high valuation, and feel like it too is in a bubble? Something have noticed about Amazon is that although they've had missteps a couple of times, like when they unsuccessfully tried to get into cell phones late in the game, most of the time in the short-term their price has risen at a decent pace - unlike gold which seems like it sort of stayed the same price for about 30 years?

Not sure what to expect with bitcoin and ethereum in the short and long term? Opinions seem to be all across the board?

Guess the rate of growth for bitcoin and ethereum was much more rapid than it's ever been for stocks that grow consistently year over year. Has bitcoin grown something like 250% in 6 months, or something like that? And the most that stocks have grown year over year has been something like 50% due to increased demand?

Wonder if there's a certain rate of growth that'll tend to be a sign of a bubble, rather than sustainable growth? Wonder if bitcoin will continue to drop, or if now might be the time to buy while it's low?

Guess virtual currency can be much more volatile than stocks, which sometimes go nowhere for months at a time. Although guess those little growth spurts that stocks can have, which don't ever seem very large in their day to day movement, can really start to add up over time?

Lots of different investment choices!

New Menu Items

Made these little fritters a while ago with chickpea flour - was hoping they would taste like Indian pakoras? But they tasted just like they looked ... like pancakes They were pretty yummy ...

Also made an asparagus flatbread/tart - heard that Michelle Obama decided to add a vegetable garden to the White House lawn and invite kids over to harvest vegetables after she learned that lots of children had never seen stuff like carrots come out of the ground? Have never seen asparagus come out of the ground before today - would have liked to have been invited to the White House by a first lady at some point to see vegetables harvested, so would know these things! Looks like it comes out of the ground looking exactly like it does at the store?

My tart doesn't look very appetizing because of the whole wheat crust - but wanted to post that pic of the asparagus coming out of the ground. There's some sauteed onions and gruyere cheese under the asparagus spears, and then wound up putting some spicy chicken on top, so it tasted better than it looked

Don't usually buy asparagus very often because it can be quite expensive when it's not in season - but it's in season right now, and it's super fresh. They had bunches with thicker stalks, and bunches with thinner stalks - so tried to get a bunch with some of each ... and it seemed like the thinner ones were much more tender? May try getting a bunch with many more thinner ones next time?

Just dozed off - oh dear ...

Guess have been spending more time getting more exercise outdoors, and have been staying up late to look at investment stuff. But bought that PCLN and some BABA a couple of days ago, so am already set for Q3 with the investments - may take a little summertime posting break before the big Canada Day celebration and before the WSOP Main Event starts, to just relax and enjoy some silly tv shows, and look at recipes and stuff?

Will be back in a couple of days - hope everybody's having a lovely summer!

Haven't crashed for the night yet - was just watching the evening news, and saw this story of a family who started a shawarma business in a small town, and it's turned into a huge hit

Entrepreneur stories are quite interesting - guess many have qualities that maybe some of us may lack ... like courage?

So guess they can be inspiring reads There was another one a couple of days ago, about a gamer who feels more comfortable starting companies than running them? It was interesting to hear him say that he likes starting businesses because he feels like he's meeting a need that hasn't yet been met?

It feels like am rambling a little bit - guess will go to sleep now

Have been looking around, hoping to find some sort of antique, to maybe pick up as a memento to celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday - although, guess sometimes there can be a fine line between an 'antique' and a 'knick-knack'?
eg. yes/no?

Hard to find something with historical significance, for under ... $20

May get a coin or something

Happy Canada Day everybody!

Not the greatest weather out today - at one point, this used to be one of the tallest buildings in the world, although guess there's been many taller ones that have since been built in Asia and the Middle East?

Not sure there's much public support for building tall buildings any more these days - it seems like people are happier to see the money spent on stuff like universal healthcare? A casino in downtown Toronto would have been cool though - maybe one day ...

It was a bit rainy this afternoon, although it looks like the sun's starting to peek out from behind the clouds for the first time today - hopefully the fireworks shows that are planned for tonight will go on, as planned?

Well ... fireworks are always pretty - and guess my photography skills are still a work in progress

Maybe have to travel to Disney in the US to see the really spectacular fireworks shows? Although guess only the ones in Canada will be in red and white

There are lots of art shows and street fairs that happen in the summertime - may keep my eye out for some local art? Would be lovely to find a piece that feels like looking outside the window at a warm sunny day, when it's really the middle of winter. Would be especially lovely to find a piece like that which will appreciate in value over time!

Will see

Such a sweet little video

Was looking at some art on Etsy tonight - it seems like maybe some of these painting prices can vary as widely as some of the staking prices in poker? Like this painting is pretty - wonder if it's really worth $1,500?

The same artist has some smaller pieces available for a fraction of the price ...

Have no idea of it would be considered a quality work of art - but it seems like maybe better value than many of the cat paintings on Etsy that are selling for twice the price?

Some of the articles was reading make it sound like painting can be as hard as poker - like lots of talented people, and not a huge market? So while some pieces may increase in price over time, it's probably best to stick with buying whatever suits one's tastes? Will have to see what else may be available for around $100 - that seems like a pretty decent deal for something that may provide years of enjoyment ... and may even maintain some resale value?

Now that it's the lazy days of summer, may take a break from my usual silly stuff, to do other silly stuff May try my luck at a couple of Micro Millions tourneys - or may not, will have to see ...

Hope everybody's having a lovely summer!

Summer Tourney Project

Have been inspired by all the excitement surrounding the commencement of the WSOP Main Event, to pick up my old project of trying to get better at playing tournaments!

Should this yellow graph be going up over time, yes? So Sam has a bit of a ways to go before will be seeing some improvement

Guess this is maybe really be a project of trying to open up and take more risks to pick up chips, and not play so scared? The nightly PS women's tournament seems like it might be a decent place to practice with the lower buy-in, and small top prize?

At $0.55 a night, guess the most could possibly lose on this project is around a hundred dollars or so? So guess that's not soo a bad worst case scenario

Will have to see how things go - hope to learn some new things!

Poker two days in a row, and am already feeling all pokered out Kind of funny, when used to play every day? Guess part of it may have been because was playing those Micro Millions Spins - where it's possible to run bad in not one but two different ways, with the cards and also the multiplier? So probably that didn't help ...

Guess the slower Micro Millions tourneys should be a bit more fun - will just wait for those to start to play a bit more

It feels right to have moved away from poker and more towards investing - the Priceline bought a couple of weeks ago is already up 3% ...

So things are coming along with the investing, slowly but surely - guess will just play a couple of Micro Millions, and just try to do my best to open up a bit more in the blinds, and whenever else there's a decent chance

Have actually been sticking with my pledge to try taking more risks to pick up chips a try - hehe! As far as my rash ideas tend to go, guess this one isn't nearly as costly as my impulse investment in gold, or my little experiment in shorting SNAP And has been pretty good fun

Am still playing the $0.55 nightly women's tourney on Stars, but have also been late registering for the $0.22 that starts at 7pm on Party - besides being half the price (an extra -$0.33 a day can really start to add up! ), it seems to have a much better structure, with the 30k starting stack, and 8 minute blinds? May just focus on playing that?

Here's what have been able to manage with the risk taking - have managed to build up some pretty decent-sized stacks a couple of times already, so that's been pretty exciting, to have stuff work out part of the time?

Guess some of my ideas for how to better pick up chips comes from studying hand histories of other players at my past tables - and guess others have come from places like watching twitch, or following live tourney coverage like hte nightly WSOP feeds ... so if some of these moves look a little bit like Dario Minieri's, it's because Sam's too cheap to pay for a subscription to a training site lol ...

Sample Hand 1 - the tightie on the button behind me cold called my raise ... disaster! Maybe was lucky to get saved by a good flop?

Sample Hand 2 - this felt spewy, like maybe too few chips to make up for the decent amount of times my shove might wind up getting called by better? And by calling instead, maybe my hand even wins some of the time?

Sample Hand 3 - it seemed like the villain had a flush draw ... maybe better to shove with a hand like T7 instead?

Am not used to antes and rising blinds - so have never really played this wide. Guess it'll take time to figure out what just feels spewy and what really is as spewy as it feels?

Things took a turn quite drastically after we reached ITM - not sure if making the money made the big difference, or if the pool got much better, or if people just started making hands ... maybe all three? So had a top 9 stack for much of the tourney, and then wound up going out in ... 15th, with 30 getting paid, or something like that?

The Micro Millions seem kind of expensive compared to this $0.22 Party tourney - the top prize is only $10, but it feels like a nice place to try and get better? Guess that's going to take some time

Fruits and veggies are only in season two months of the year - and since my tomatoes and jalapenos are still a work in progress, have been picking up my local produce at the store and the occasional farmer's market

Managed to pick up a lovely assortment of zucchini the other day ...

... and made a zucchini and roasted cherry tomato flatbread with it tonight. Can't seem to get the timing of all the toppings and the crust just right, so the whole wheat flatbread came out looking a bit crispy ... again It actually tasted just fine - but learned my lesson from last time though, and have started using tiny naan breads to experiment with new recipes, just in case

Will have to try grilling some vegetables next, once the weather clears up

Gosh, so was able to build a stack again in the early stages of one of my tournaments, with not great cards, and was chip leader for much of the tournament. But had trouble again in the later stages of the tournament, much like yesterday as well - except today, fizzled out on the bubble and didn't even cash!

This style's much more high variance, so am feeling a little bit withered from the lollercoaster Guess it's been good practice - so even if it's not working for me so great right now, hopefully trying out new stuff has been worth it, and with practice will hopefully better be able to figure out how to better make things work?

Will be nice to take a break from poker for a couple of days - was hoping to be able to check out the practice runs of the Toronto Indy tomorrow, since entry is free with a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation ... although it may rain? There's also a bit art show at City Hall on Saturday ...

Should be good - hopefully it won't be too hot!
