Re: Just a girl with her head in the clouds

It's an easy tourney game at PH people suck in those.

I don't have enough patience for Holdem tournaments but I like those there. Usually play in one or two when I'm in town

Here's the link to the article I found just in case anyone else is curious.

http://pokerworks.com/poker-news/200...led-times.html

People like this don't shock me anymore. Do what you want, just know you need to take responsibility for the consequences. That girl didn't seem like she wanted to take any responsibility, but it is just one article and one side of the story so who knows.

Bigger bankroll required for small stakes limit O8 than PLO ITT.

Re: Just a girl with her head in the clouds

Good bankroll for limit games is 300 big bets (if you lose 300 big bets you're probably not good enough to beat the limit you're playing). Good bankroll apparently for PLO is 100 buy ins, probably 50 minimum. 4/8 LO8 is $2400, 1/3 PLO is $15,000 to $30,000. You can lose 5 buy ins walking your doggie at PLO, though I've never played it live and have no plans to.

Yeah, so this. Not even remotely fair.

And the people telling her not to try to play poker for a living, also, STFU.

BUT: it is true that she cannot bet sports for a living, or even a profit, not without learning a lot more than she knows now. So the poster who rode her about that was doing her a favor. Mistaking run good for play good is a constant source of disaster in this town.

About the BJ: if bearding for a crew, that can be legit. She probably completely misses the profile mark, so can fly under the radar for a bit longer.

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't take this as negativity. It isn't negative to suggest, for example, that you not drive drunk.

My point exactly.

And OMC, I'm not sure anyone was suggesting she not play poker. The blackjack and sports is just lol though.

Somebody inquired about her bankroll earlier, and I'm pretty sure it went unanswered.

Re: Just a girl with her head in the clouds

She happens to be young woman on an adventure, It would be a different story if she was 30 with a few kids but she's not. I just don't see what is so wrong with her giving it a shot failure or no failure.
In the END all we have are experiences and a story. I don't know how you want your story to read but I would rather have "lived in Vegas and gave it a shot", not "I ridiculed this 22 year old girl online who has been thru a lot of **** and has more balls then me "
but hey if you want to be that guy, go ahead cause I'm guessing your opinion doesn't mean a whole lot to her .

I read that post earlier and read it again. No mention of a dollar figure.

And to the person two posts above, nobody is ridiculing her and saying she shouldnt give it a shot. Just advice from people who have been there and done it before.

I really wish I would have had someone to give it to me straight the couple times I had run up a $5k roll, thought I was a pro and quit my job.

Yeah, OP isn't "scared of failure" and hasn't had the easiest path to today, but wouldn't you rather succeed? By all means, give it a shot, but there are choices that can be made to greatly enhance your chances. If you don't mind going completely broke and sleeping on your friends couch, like where my poor choices have got me presently, then by all means, knock yourself out.

I don't have an actual BR (money saved) if that's what you mean.

I was backed in California before I moved to Vegas, and my goal in Vegas is to build a BR from scratch by using various skills and talents I've developed over the years as I've lived many different lifestyles. I'm also here to learn in every way that I can.

Hense the reason I chose to post in LVL, I know I probably don't have a fat chance in hell to actually accomplish such vagaries, but if I do then it'll be worth it.

I moved to LV for poker, that's the only reason.

I have bad habits that I admit to, and am set on either overcoming all adversity or at least being able to say I tried.

Even if I run home with my tail between my legs I know I've made my friends and family proud by being crazy enough to try

Well if that isn't going to be taken in a certain way by 2+2'ers I don't know what will.

As far as what has been said regarding my limit Omaha hi/lo recommendation, you are incorrect that it requires a larger bankroll. PLO is going to be much more variance than limit O8.

Now perhaps because of your personality, limit O8 isn't up your alley. It's not a glory game, it's a nut-peddling game. You want to find a full-ring table with 5+ players to a flop and play tighter than an 11-year old with a creepy uncle.

O8 is also extremely easy to learn basic strategy for, especially if you're already familiar with hold em and plo. I recommend the section in Super System II on O8 to give you a basic primer and get you beating loose-passive full-ring games. If you wind up in short-handed or more aggressive O8 games, while less ideal, you will want to have read Mike Capelleti's Omaha hi/lo split poker for strategies such as the promo raise, etc.

alternatively, there are already some decent articles online that won't cost you a dime, here are some links:

http://www.pokerlistings.com/omaha-h...basic-strategy

http://www.pokerlistings.com/limit-omaha-high-low

http://www.pokerlistings.com/playing...omaha-high-low

http://www.pokerlistings.com/omaha-h...starting-hands

http://www.pokerlistings.com/strateg...s-guide-part-1

http://www.pokerlistings.com/strateg...s-guide-part-2

There is some repetition between these articles, but it will give you a good foundation for playing a much lower variance game with a higher winrate possible than playing limit hold em. Good luck whichever path you choose.

Re: Just a girl with her head in the clouds

The advice is much appreciated.

I'm personally not in a rush to get rich and famous, I'm willing to pay my dues as everyone eventually does. I know I'm not gonna give up on poker, that's definitely not happening.

I'm focused on learning what I can from a great lifestyle I've already learned so much from.

After all, I am only 22 - no kids, and this is when I should take my shot because I can bounce back as I have in the past.

Hoping I can make a difference by not being afraid to fail while i vehemently pursue my dreams.

I gots me a story to tell
Will definitely be cracking my SS II again soon, definitely would love to be back in the Omaha action

I was thinking the same thing^^^^. I'll be following your adventures and rooting for you. I've always thought women have a bit of an edge playing poker because many guys immediately discount their abilities. Take advantage of this fact. 👍

Re: Just a girl with her head in the clouds

Yes...reactions to women on the internet are completely different rush reactions to men on the internet. It's the nature of the beast.

In an optimal world, people would be nice & provide helpful encouraging advice to everyone.

However, people tend to fawn over women & white knight, while people tend to focus entirely on the negative & bash men. It's just the nature of the internet beast.

As long as a person is aware of the possibilities of failure & takes constructive advice about what they can do to limit those chances of failure, hating on anyone for pursuing something is unnecessary.

G'luck.
