I will ask you several basic strat questions

I will ask you several true count play deviations (none will be obscure but the improtant money ones) These will be ev deviations not MIT ce deviations

I will be able to determine if you have an edge pretty quickly with these simple tests

If you pass dinner is on me
wouldnt mind having this guy evaluate me at a BJ table too, but i live in reno instead of vegas.

That's good to hear. I used to play in a poker club in MD that had a lot of "Carmen Stories". I played with her at a BPO event back in 07 for a short moment and she seemed pretty cool.

No problem my man...hit me up any time you make it to town. I hate the casino industry with a passion. Would be a pleasure to pass on some knowledge to help alleviate them of some $$$

Can this be a new thread? I wan't to know how good sevencard's BJ skills are after hearing about his BJ playing on his blog for years.

I really no longer play. My former partners and I get together for a "reunion" every few years or so and will put down a play for grins. THe last time I did this was in 2012. It was a really fun play. We went to the redrock and got down for several hours with heavy duty purple action. Any time you lay down serious action it needs to be sold (ie back story etc). We were in town for one of the boys bachelor party and were gamboolin it up. I was one of the "broke" ones and was crackin tables betting small red action signalling for the $$ to come over. We sold it like champs and got down for hours. Ended up nailing em for just under 30k before they found out who we were. They were total champs about it all and were non stop in their compliments while backing us off (extremely rare...prolly cuz we have not been active in so long). We ended up partying in the "red bar" in the center all night.

TBC dropping into the thread from left field and starting his own side convo with Squid - no surprise there!

Foatie described the life of Captain-Use-A-Ho while also laying down the knowledge about the cycle of women who come to Vegas looking to live off of Captain-Save-A-Ho.

Foatie dropped the mic on the "advice" ITT - Now i'm curious who Blazin's "Captain" is???

You're cool W, always. I was poking fun a TBC making an appearance and doing a bit of trolling.

I don't have a "Captain" Lol I Wasn't broke when I came to Vegas 2 months ago, I had been working as a hostess as well as running home games with friends in California before I came out here.

What I'd really like to hear more about is how I can make it with a better poker life strategy than the one I've created on my own with no coaching. If the advice I receive is related to poker, then we can discuss things I should be doing in order to accomplish the goals I have in poker.

I didn't start this thread for advice about how to fix my life, I'm not in a place where I'm worse off than those who justifiably don't share, I mean in reality no one has ever been a "White Knight" in my life, and I honestly don't think that's the reason behind any of the "advice" I've received anyway.

It's a fact that my mind set will effect the way my life turns out, and yes I will certainly get what I deserve in the end. I'm willing to pay my dues in order to be where I want to be, and I work extremely hard towards those goals.

I'm still only human, so it'd be cool if we could all take a second to admit we're one in the same.

I'm sure there are men with more horrific stories than mine, and I'm sure some of those men have made it in one way or another,or inevitably failed.

I was asked about my favorite poker rooms and why, I answered thoroughly. I would love some real feed back on that, especially since I would like to game select better. I currently use Bravo Poker to find the games, but insight about which rooms are generally softer and what time is best to play would be appreciated advice I will definitely take into consideration from those who are more experienced

Poker advise - pimp out Trooper to all the horny ladies until you make 10k then start playing.

Part of fixing your poker game is fixing other things. Substance and gambling issues are not conducive to being a successful poker player.

As far as playing poker goes, a little experience will really help. 4 betting and getting in your mid pairs in the Vegas low stakes games will cost you a lot.

Evenings and nights are best. If you're playing 1/2 or 1/3 table selection matters much more in general than room selection.

Most major rooms will have many games running. Work on getting yourself to the easier ones.

In general, you make more money in rooms where you're comfortable. Different things make different people comfortable.

Try them all once, go back to the ones you like best.

If Wynn is the spot that makes you most comfortable, & you can afford a deeper 1/3, play there.

If you're rolled/staked for 2/5, definitely good to keep an eye on Bravo. If you see a 2/5 jumping off at PH, Mirage (RIP), or any other room where 2/5 doesn't run, it's probably going to be a good game (until all the other Bravo trollers get in).

If you plan on taking poker seriously, I would treat it like a job. Set up a schedule for yourself that allows you to put in a certain amount of hours at times you are comfortable with, & try to stick to that.

If you're trying to cut vices out of your life, having a set schedule & "responsibilities", even if self-imposed, can't hurt.

Don't overplan & try to fit too much in or you'll burn out & crash.

Find a balance of study & socialization & work you're comfortable with.

LLSNL for strategy advice (on 2+2) It's not all good, but it should at least make you think.

Those are all just general suggestions, not commands. No matter how they were worded.

Love this, thank you.

I'm doing yard work today, and I'll be sure to take the time after that to work on a solid scheduling plan.

Are there any suggestions as to what I could do in my free time to replace my habit of gambling/ drinking? I think that's what I've been trying to figure out most, and since I'm not from here I've found it difficult to find productive hobbies.

Definitely think I'm best to start exercising, as I've heard that can be a good way to relieve stress and I usually enjoy it too. Maybe yoga?

Just answered your own question. The next step is to actually do it.

No problem.

It depends on what you like to do. Pretty much anything someone enjoys, they can do in Vegas.

If you want to work out, join a gym; if you like to play sports, join a rec league or check out LVL to see if there are others interested in playing that sport; if you like hiking, get a season pass to Red Rock & check out the different trails; if you like fish & sharks, get a season pass to Shark Reef @ Mandalay; read books, work on your writing, watch good tv shows, etc., etc.
