Jmakinmeangry's debauchery and general idiocy blog

Hello, I will start this off.

If you know me at all or my posting you'll know i shared once that I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago with anti social personality disorder, more colloquially known as "sociopathy." I feel personally I'm quite normal but how I perceive the world is a little different than others. Some on here have used it as a way to try to dismiss my opinions - which i find funny sometimes because sociopaths are more likely to be coldly rational about things.

Anyway i think i lead a pretty interesting life. I have a hot gf these days who is pretty great, and calamity or great fortune seem to follow whatever I do. I will be applying for my captain's license in a month or two.

This blog is for:

Me to whine
Me to gloat
You to make fun of me
You to praise me
Ask whatever questions you may have about my disorder(personally i find it really boring)
Debate my personal religious/political philosophies

Today after work i need to get my big toenail removed. It was ingrown and my gf dumbly tried to fix it last week and now it's 100 times worse. FML.

Are you saying that your opinions are better because you are a sociopath?

I don't think they're better necessarily, just not any worse.

A lot of times they will be better because they'll lack emotional bias... "coldly rational" as you put it.

See, it's a popular misconception that sociopaths lack emotion. Thank dexter for that, I suppose.

Ty. Removed half the nail and about a half inch of it was completely dug into the right side of my toe. Yikes. Huge ass bill (for me anyway) and I got another bill from the hospital from my surgery a few months ago. Sucks ass.

At least I got a big vicodin prescription from the doc

what are you gonna be a captain of?

you can captain lots of stuff. boats, planes, zeppelins and other assorted airships, you can be a land captain if you're in the military and you stick with it long enough/are a college boy. sounds like an interesting and diverse field with lots of opportunities. good luck with it!

Oh, my bad. Forgot to mention that.

I work for an auto ferry that operates in a small harbor. It's pretty fun and the boats are pretty unique, they have 2 propellers, one on each side, and two rudders. I need to get a US Coast Guard issued license to drive them. There are several types of licenses, but the one I am going for is a Master/Mate Inland only (meaning I can only operate in harbors, rivers, and lakes) of vessels up to 50 Gross Tons. I have to pass 3 separate tests, as well as a thorough physical, drug test, and background check. I just applied for my TSA issued ID badge called a "TWIC" card last week, which I should be getting soon.

The test is quite difficult for most people, even though I'm taking the smallest one. It consists of 3 sections: Rules of the Road (traffic rules basically), Navigation, and Deck General + Safety. There's a 4th test called "Plotting Practical" which is just chart plotting, but since I can only get an inland license, I don't need to bother with it. Here are some sample questions from each section:

Deck General and Safety (50 questions, 70% req.)

Considering manning requirements for US flag vessels, your 2 watch cargo vessel has a deck crew of 20 people, exclusive of officers. How many of these people do the manning regulations require to be able seamen?

a. 13
b. 10
c. 7
d. 5

5: You are standing the wheelwatch when you hear the cry, "Man overboard starboard side". You should instinctively __________.

a. give full left rudder
b. give full right rudder
c. put the rudder amidships
d. throw a life ring to mark the spot

6: Which statement about a tunnel bow thruster is TRUE?

a. It provides lateral control without affecting headway.
b. It is fully effective at speeds up to about six knots.
c. It can be used to slow the ship in addition to backing down.
d. It will allow you to hold a position when the current is from astern.

Rules of the Road (30 questions, 90% required)

4: INLAND ONLY A vessel proceeding downstream in a narrow channel on the Western Rivers sights another vessel moving upstream. Which vessel has the right of way?

a. The vessel moving upstream against the current
b. The vessel moving downstream with a following current
c. The vessel located more towards the channel centerline
d. The vessel sounding the first whistle signal

5: INLAND ONLY You are overtaking a power-driven vessel in a narrow channel and wish to leave her on your starboard side. You may __________.

a. attempt to contact her on the radiotelephone to arrange for the passage
b. proceed to overtake her without sounding whistle signals
c. sound five short blasts
d. All of the above

8: INLAND ONLY If you were coming up on another power-driven vessel from dead astern and desired to overtake on the other vessel's starboard side, which whistle signal would you sound?

a. One short blast
b. One prolonged blast
c. Two short blasts
d. Two prolonged blasts

Navigation and Weather (20 questions, 70% required)

140: You are underway on course 050░T and your maximum speed is 12 knots. The eye of a hurricane bears 080░T, 100 miles from your position. The hurricane is moving towards 265░T at 22 knots. If you maneuver at 12 knots to avoid the hurricane, what could be the maximum CPA?

a. 76 miles
b. 69 miles
c. 63 miles
d. 56 miles

85: Your longitude is 179░59'W. The LMT at this longitude is 23h 56m of the 4th day of the month. Six minutes later your position is 179░59'E longitude. Your LMT and date is now __________.

a. 00h 02m on the 4th
b. 00h 02m on the 5th
c. 23h 50m on the 5th
d. 00h 02m on the 6th

111: Green lights may appear on __________.
a. horizontally banded buoys
b. vertically striped buoys
c. yellow buoys
d. spherical buoys

So, I'm preparing for that right now. I've passed the test twice before, so it's nothing new. I'm quite rusty though and the amount of material is HUGE - they draw from a pool of over 30,000 questions. So we'll see how i do. The only section I struggled with is Deck.

Dramamine or any related motion sickness medication, but it needs to be taken before symptoms start or it won't do a thing. The bracelets are a scam, they do nothing, but I've heard people swear by them.

If you are already seasick and you're on a large vessel: head towards the most center part of the vessel, and stare out on the horizon. I like sprite/saltine crackers to combat nausea but I've never really been all that susceptible to motion sickness.

Right on I went whale watching once and it was a disaster, on cruise ships it's been just fine but I'll pick up Dramamine if I ever go on rough waters in the future.

You always have interesting viewpoints I'll enjoy seeing what you have to say in the future.

Thanks. On second thought the stern may be a better spot. Depends on the type of boat.

It's funny, because sometimes when you complain about your life, I'm thinking that wow, he's young, living by the ocean, driving a boat (driving?) and living many people's idea of the dream. Sounds exciting to me!

Hope your knee is getting better...

I get 1 deckhand, so I guess technically that would make him first mate. lol. picard > kirk

Yea the shot was pretty painful actually. but then I didn't feel a thing, which is good because the procedure basically involves them jamming something under your toenail, lifting it up, then getting scissors and slicing it in half. then they dig out the part that's embedded underneath the skin.

Yea, well, I've been doing it a long time and honestly I don't care for it very much. There are good days and bad days, but mostly what wears me down is having to deal with snotty locals 24/7 who are all VERY wealthy and sometimes treat you like you're lower than dirt. Then there's the tourists, which can be pretty obnoxious.

The weather is very nice though most of the time, and the job itself is low stress. I just get so bored with it at times, but driving should be much more interesting. It's something I should have been doing a long time ago.

On today's docket is getting an HIV/gonorrhea screen. Should be clean but they wanted to do a followup from like a year ago that I never went and did and the doctor's getting mad about it.

Haha yea. I was raised fundamentalist Christian and went to a Christian school from k-12. I was pretty indoctrinated but towards the end of HS I was violently depressed and wasn't buying it anymore, stopped "following God" but still genuinely believed I was going to hell. I didn't care.

Took about 4 years and a lot of life experience to start questioning the actual existence of God itself, so over the course of about a year I read all the creationist arguments i could get my hands on, theology books, as well as hitchens and dawkins arguments. "How religion poisons everything" by hitchens was very instrumental in shaping my views at first.

Then I watched a youtube series about a guy who explained the process of his deconversion and it made total sense to me. I explored a lot of the inaccuracies and contradictions within the Bible itself and came to the conclusion that it was more likely that there was no god than that there was one. I felt like a huge weight was lifted off of me and everything made sense for the first time in my life.

So, like any new "convert" i was a little zealous at first and alienated a lot of Christian friends. I no longer care about those friendships, but at the time it was painful. I participated in online discussions and debated a lot of creationists. There was one group in particular on FB i really liked called "religion poisons everything" and I was one of the first members.

The goal of the movement is to eradicate religion entirely - something 2 years ago i thought would be a good thing. However, i no longer feel that way and it's caused some friction in the group. I think they are too intolerant and overdramatic. I hate religion, but I respect people's right to believe in whatever they wish as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. This group in particular advocates defriending anyone religious, which i find absurd nowadays.

I think religion will eventually disappear entirely but this needs to be achieved through informing and educating, not by force and hate filled nonsense. It's made me sick lately to see how far gone a few of my groups are.

I feel a lot of ex christians substitute their old religion for this militant view of atheism. for all intents and purposes, it is their religion, complete with the group think, dogma, intolerance, and even their own "holy book" which can be any number of writings by hitchens/dawkins.

Odds are reasonably high I've already posted that image in reply to similar on this site. I'm just that unoriginal.
