Milk, oatmeal, fruits, a little bit of cheese, eggs, chicken breast and brown rice are cheap for what I researched. But yea, nutrition will probably still be a barrier.

Not quite sure, but guess there could be some more of em around Can tell you her name tho, so we could check out if it was the same chick. But her English writing (we also used pen + paper when I didn't understand something at all) wasn't too bad actually, just a bit hard to read the writing.

You're paying first world prices (or even a bit higher). So cooking western foods at home may be more expensive than eating out if you can get used to the cuisine. On an $800 budget eating a lot of Western food is going to take a high % of that.

This is based on my experiences, but I believe they're similar in many places in E/SE Asia.
I've just been to the biggest local market in SHV quite early this morning and bought some - let's say - "Western" stuff cause I'm going to cook for the guys at my guesthouse tonight. Actually paid significantly less then for the same products in Germany. That included one of the finest pork pieces (5x more expensive in Germany), some vegetables and fresh 2kg fresh tuna for $2,50 at the fish market where it just arrived when I've been there at around 6pm. Overall way cheaper than in Germany for example. What's a bit more expensive is all the toiletries (shampoo - whatever) they need to import. But still didn't pay more for it than in Germany.

Not eating 3 times a day right now, cause I wanna loose some weight and mainly try to eat a bit more healthy also - currently spending around $10 a day on food and beers (most of it for beers). That's not too bad actually, but sure it's gonna be more some days when going out.

I was wondering if eating pork is safe in Cambo. If the farmers/storage at slaughterhouse don't have the correct hygiene, I think you can get some diseases from it. Is that right or cooking the pork properly solves the problem? Have you seen brown rice and granola over there?

In Cambodia the chances of getting bad pork and a foid poisoning are X times higher than in country Y but also X times lower than in country Z. So you should be fine. Or probably not. Start asking serious questions. Also use something called "g-o-o-g-l-e" and you can find out everything interesting (and not interesting) about pork. Really sorry, but my thread isn't a "can I eat this and this without dying?"-one. If you're scared of everything just stay where you are, cause Cambo is pretty much the wrong country for you then.

Did see brown rice and you can get granola in the supermarkets.

Izzit, for what I know, pork poisoning is the worst of all. Might be bull**** as it is common sense knowledge.

Thanks Bongo for the answers. Give us some update on how life is going!
