Re: ***Official SSSH LC/NC Thread for May***

I'm having some serious degen-regret right now.

Took a shot in a live game that's _way_ to big for my roll and lost. Left, got a little tipsy and decided I should take another shot. Lose that as well and go home. Lose a few buyins at plo100.

Sigh. I never used to do stuff like this before.

Re: ***Official SSSH LC/NC Thread for May***

haha, yeah.

You still got the truck?

The hand that got me was pretty nasty. Game is 500/1000 isk NL 5 handed (roughly $4/$8) and insanely deep. Two guys have over 1k big blinds. I'm sitting on 290bb (started with 200).

I open QQ and get called by a very laggy guy in position. He thinks i'm a huge nit and will try to bluff me very frequently. He's your typical rich laggy live player. Plays way to many hands pre, loves to straddle, loves to make hero plays, but has a bit of sense for poker. Fundamentals are terrible though. One blind calls too.

3 players to the flop and it comes J 9 8. I bet 10bb into the 13bb pot and villain flats in pos while the blind folds.

Turn 5 (I'm not 100% on the suit but it wasn't a spade).

I bet 25bb, he pauses then goes for a raise. I really think he's on a semibluff or air here because of his tendencies and also because i have a tiny bit of physical read to back that feeling up. He's capable of floating me and then raising turn with air. And he's extremely flop peel happy so he can have a very wide range of hands.

He makes it 75bb. I consider all 3 options but decide to flat and then c/c most rivers and c/r a T. I don't know if it's the best play or not. Shoving is def an option but I think he's going to fold most of the time so it would be purely for protection. He won't call me with worse. At best he'll call with a combo draw, but I do block a lot of outs for straightdraws so it might be the best play.

The river is the 6. I check and he snap-shoves (he covers me). I pause for a while, then decide he can easily have Tx or missed spades/clubs and I need to stick to my plan. In hindsight I should probably only fold on a 7 or Q, although folding top set will be very difficult. It's a big bet, about 110% of the pot. I think he bets 2pairs and sets smaller or not at all so it's a pretty polarized bet.

I call and he tables the 72o.

They were playing 72 bonus btw. If you win a hand with 72 (bluff or showdown) you get 2bb from each opponent.

Back for almost two whole days and not a peep about the Pacers or Luck or Manning?

The medication must be working.

Haha. Welcome back. Shove turn with your read not c/c. At least in PLO get the pot sized bet all in on the turn with the made hand. Seems best here by a lot. Of course I suck at NL

Re: ***Official SSSH LC/NC Thread for May***

This isn't PLO.

The reason we're shove-happy when oop in PLO is to prevent ourselves from making mistakes on later streets. Also, equities run close in PLO. You shove stuff like weak 2pair with lots of redraws because you know that if you just call you're gonna be faced with a tough river decision when you miss and only have weak 2 pair on the river. And also because even with 2pair and draws there's a lot of marginal hands that have decent equity vs us but have to fold vs our shove (stuff like mid pair with live sidecards and maybe a guttie).

But in this hand I'm pretty far ahead of most of his draws because of my blockers. So I gotta figure out what play maximizes my Ev vs his range. If he has me beat, which is certainly possible, I gain zero from shoving. He never folds a better hand. And if he's drawing I gain more by flatting cause he's extremely likely to barrel when he whiffs. He even said after the hand that his plan was to shove any river, although that might just be talk. And when he's on air it's obviously way better to flat. The main problem with flatting is when the river is a 7 (i doubt i have the willpower to fold a Q). So that's 4 extra outs he gets to win the hand. But still, assuming he has on average 5ish outs, that's about 20% chance he "wins the hand" and 80% chance I get him to bluff 200bb into me (fuzzy math obv). I'm ignoring the cases where he's already made cause they don't affect the decision after i've decided i'm stacking off.

If I had a set I think it's a clear shove cause then I can get called by a lot more worse hands. And there's 4 extra scarecards for me to worry about.

But I'm far from certain whether or not flatting twice is better than shoving. I think it's close.

Yeah fun spot, playing guessing games for stacks with bluffcatchers against spewy retards. Just another reason I don't play NL cash that often.
