Palo, I'm talking like 2003-present, he makes money playing poker. Used to dominate MTTs on here. Not saying he isn't fat and a tilt chatter, just sayin he's not some fish.

That's exactly it. He crushed the super soft games of '05 and developed a sense of entitlement. Everything about him reflects this.

He got hacked for 20k too, that made things a little more difficult.

vic, its pretty annoying these days because with any study cited, there's always another similar one "proving the opposite"

that said, this doctor has basically devoted his life to this research and i was pleasantly pleased to see this book filled with thousands of citations(again, says nothing without doing more digging, but...)

cliffs: curious as to why certain rural parts of china weren't suffering from diseases that most of the developed world was, he found that animal protein is the main catalyst in cancer cell production. in diets where animal protein was removed, you could apply even the most feared carcinogens without worry cuz it couldn't be synthesized.

i haven't even finished the book but its kept my interest so far.

/probably too radical for mainstream media to try to push on joe blow america "I eat mah meat cuz daddy taught mah to finish mah plate, gristle and all!"

//vegan diet, blech

I have only read one book on psychopathy which I would highly recommend to anyone interested in this subject. Based on the anecdotal accounts from the book it seemed like there was a tendency of psychopaths to father/mother lots of illegitimate children and basically leave them and move on. I don't recall this pattern being explicitly stated by the author, so this evidence is admittedly weak.

Also, no desire to have a kid is a common attribute of psychopaths as they often view kids as an inconvenience, but we can't infer from this that they have less kids than average given their other countervailing traits like irresponsible and impulsive behavior, need for excitement, and a general inability to assess how decisions today affect their future. I suspect that psychopaths are more reproductively successful but more evidence needs to be gathered before I would upgrade my suspicion to a belief.

What I do know is, there has never been a better time to be a psychopath than now. Being a psychopath say 20,000 years ago in a small hunter/gatherer tribe would probably be very tough. Screwing over just a few people could easily get you killed, banned from the tribe which would likely lead to death, or at least make it where nobody would want to deal with you in any important way. It was difficult making a living--from an evolutionary perspective--as a psychopath back in the day, and that is one explanation as to why they only represent a small percentage of the total human population today.

Now looking at the environment today, a world full of billions of disconnected strangers that you can manipulate to your advantage, lie to, steal from, sexually and physically abuse, etc. All these antisocial things you can do without ruining your reputation because there's always an fresh victim right around the corner who has no idea what he/she's in for. It's a kid in a candy store environment. I even suspect there's a positive correlation between psychopathy and corporate/political success given the shady tactics that one can utilize to climb up those social ladders. It would certainly help explain why those in power can make decisions that lead to the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

Nice reference! I bought this short book around a year ago, but I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I have a feeling it's gonna be an awesome read. I love the author, Christopher Hitchens. Yeah he's kind of a dick, but his insight and wisdom can be very impressive.

This is simply not true, or at the very least, there is no good reason to believe this claim given the utter lack of evidence supporting it.

There is some weak evidence suggesting that vegetarians/vegans have lower mortality rates. And The China Study also suggests that vegetarians may live healthier longer lives than meat eaters. Now this evidence may not be strong enough to prove that vegetarians/vegans live healthier lives (although I do find the China Study very compelling), this evidence is sufficient to refute the weak claim that vegetarians/vegans are doing a disservice to their health.

You need to get out more. There are hundreds of millions of vegetarians on this planet and most are doing just fine.

His sense of humour is awesome, very dry and witty, what you'd expect. Go to iTunes U or (Fora.tv) and download some of his interviews/discussions which are on numerous subjects. I can't stop listening to him, and in one he's being interviewed (what about I can't recall) with an audience, and at the end they do some Q&A with the audience. Hitchens is an Atheist and there's a couple people that stand up and talk about god and what not, then a lady has the mic and goes on about being an Atheist and Hitchens reply was (quotes aren't exact but close) "Its nice that someone stood up for us, to bad it had to be you."

Another was a man starts going on about what he believes to be inaccuracies in Hitchens book, but continues to repeat "I apologize I just skimmed through it quickly and didn't have time to read it." and Hitchens reply "As long as you paid for it, I don't care."

Putting Hitchens' snobby English accent to that last sentence makes me lol. I love his sardonic sense of humor. I have definitely enjoyed watching many youtube videos on him and many of his God debates. I can see how many would find his personality too abrasive though. Hitchens' style may be more of an acquired taste, although I took to him right away. I've always liked this clip: Christopher Hitchens on Rev. Jerry Falwell's death. Classic Hitchens at his best!
