A leaky BB defense play example? A leaky BB defense play example?

If stox book is telling you to fold A3o BB v SB, you should ignore that section of the book. Maybe the entire book completely.

I'm still not sure on your read. Is this live or online? You're saying SB opens 16%? Does he limp the rest of his range? Either way, someone playing that unbalanced will be easy to play against.

DougL,

I stand corrected.

Thank you for the thoughtful critique above. It helps me understand how to think and where my thinking needs correction.

Phunkphish,

This was online. Stox does not tell me to fold A3o here. I was just wondering since villain raised, should I have narrowed his range considerably since my stats indicated he raised only 15% of his hands but his VPIP was over 50%. Admittedly, as Doug points out, my stats are based on a limited number of hands. I probably had 50-100 hands on this player. On this particular site I cannot track players by name over the long term since player identities are protected; I can only track their play during that particular session. I believe most of the time even with small samples I can make some meaningful assessments.

Yes you can make meaningful assessments from small sample sizes. Eg if someone limps even once, they're likely a big fish.

If after 50 total hands, they have open 16% across all positions, you should not jump to a conclusion that their SB opening range is {77+, A5s+, K9s+, Q9s+, JTs, AT+, KT+, QJ}. There's no basis for that. I would say your HUD is hurting you more than it is helping, since you're not applying the information correctly.

So what I've learned from the feedback is this NOT an example of leaky BB defense, but pretty much played as most would have played it. My stabs at pointing out errors in my line turned out to be themselves wrong.

I'll do my best to post next time implementing DougL's suggestions. At that point, I expect to have 10k hands in my database (at 9100 currently) representing my re-entry into low-stakes LHE and will share some of my stats to see if they reveal any obvious leaks. I can't find any thus far, but in those 10k hands am losing close to 3bb/100. Don't know if that's just variance or I've got a gusher I have not identified yet.

The responses were more than I anticipated, and thoughtful. I appreciate the help.
