I also misremembered the deal and didn't bother to reanalyze it with the new details. Oink is right that the example I posted is probably an OK overcall. The correct hand is:

Preflop: Cutoff Hero opens 88, solid low-limit TAG SB 3-bets, loose/bad BB calls, Hero calls.

Flop: JT2 2-suited, you don't have any. SB bets, BB calls, Hero ???

Anyone still want to overcall? Consider that the overcard hands now have straight draws. Sorry for making a mess.
FWIW I'm not calling this flop.

I don't think that overcalling here is a typical mistake of a Tagfish though.

I agree with this a lot. Actually your DC series has helped me a lot because I had never really looked much at went to showdown stats of the villain to decide if I should 3-bet light with hands that are not easily dominated. Adding this to my arsenal has really helped my game vs. tags.

(btw you are losing money if you are not signed up at DC and watching Oink's series)

Yes, I see this one a lot. They bet bluff catching hands or make pure bluffs in tiny side pots.

The main thing I notice about TAG players that don't play well is that they aren't flexible. They are level 1 for the most part and tend to make rule-based plays instead of flexible plays based on the tendencies and range of hands that their opponents have.

Some examples:

- They raise a hand like 44 UTG or 3-bet a TAG's UTG raise with ATo in a high rake game.

- They semi-bluff in spots where either they have little fold equity against their opponent's range or their opponent is the type that never folds.

- They play small pots too aggressively (see MacGuyV's example).

- They raise in spots where they are either tying or losing (not overcalling for example).
