BvB call open

Hello,

I want to ask if someone can explain me advantages and disadvantages of call opening in BvB? In last few days one of the great regs (High as united) call open me from SB in BvB, my 3bet range from BB is standard, maybe bit tighter then usual, so I dont know the point of this. If it is something super advanced, I like to hear and try to use also Thank you!

Re: BvB call open

AFAIK it's nothing out of the ordinary. It's been discussed here and there around 2p2. I've seen a few regs experiment with that style but they mostly (as far as I can tell) went back to the usual style of just open raising after a while.

I guess the advantage is that if you know that you fold too much vs. villain postflop then you make a smaller mistake by giving up a smaller pot. In other words you choose the lesser of two evils - but you should really just fix the underlying problem.

It's quite possible that there's other stuff to consider that I'm ignorant of.

Re: BvB call open

i starting using the open limp when i first started playing online. having learned lhe from playing 4/8 in the local casino i knew that it was going to be quite a length of time before i'd be realizing a positive wr online, so i basically figured it would be to my advantage to implement a "lose the least" strategy wherever possible. keeping the pot small from the sb in bvb pots seemed like an especially good idea since even the best players don't make money from the sb. additionally i'd read that a couple winning pros (deathdonkey and mitchL) had experimented with the strategy so that was more or less the icing on the cake...

anyway even though my results are better now i've basically been too lazy to change it. limping the sb has become a habit and i'm alot more comfortable playing with this dynamic. but to be clear it's not that i think it's a better strategy for me at this point, i would just rather evaluate postflop situations when i take time off from playing to study the game (which truthfully doesn't happen enough these days). it does have its merits for sure, but there are players who are much better than me and if it were the optimal strategy they would be doing it.

oh and thanks for calling me a great player but i think this thread jinxed me as it happened to coincide with my worst poker day of all time...managed to lose roughly 350 bets lol
