Trip Report:
Finally reached the East Coast! I haven't played any poker since Arizona. From there we drove to Austin, TX where I did actually manage to find a legal poker room. I never found time to go, and they only had a couple 1/2nl games, but the concept was cool. They are able to spread the games because they don't collect any rake or time, they only charge a membership fee of $30 a day or $200 a month to enter the building. Sweet deal for a small-stakes grinder.
We got stopped by border patrol on our way through El Paso and were questioned extensively by an officer who seemed convinced that we were smuggling a Mexican underneath our pile of luggage. It was a little unnerving because of the bananas we actually had inside the pile of luggage. Austin is always a blast, and we got to spend Thanksgiving with old friends that moved there.
From there we drove to New Orleans, which is also an awesome city. It was 80 and humid there, it must be really gross in the summer. Bourbon street is pretty grimy and vomit-covered, but the rest of the town is spacious and historic and the people were very friendly.
After that, we headed north to Chattanooga, TN. I watched the thermometer slowly drop from 80 to 40
My wife had her heart set on seeing the biggest underwater waterfall, but it was flooded that day
We explored the city for a little but decided to go to mammoth caves after Nashville, our next stop. When we got there they were also closed to do repairs to the caves
But we managed to sneak around and get about 100 yds into the cave entrance. Cool, but disappointing. Nonetheless, both Nashville and Chattanooga were also really cool cities.
We stopped in Charleston, WV which was much more rundown and decrepit than we were expecting. Didn't do much there.
Now we are in Maryland and our timing happened to work out perfectly for me to catch the Friday game at Maryland Live. It used to be 50/100 and I was unsure if it even ran anymore, but obv I run good and when I arrived at 11:30am there were already 2 games going, and they have since bumped it up to 75/150, and I got to sit right in and play short for a little before it filled
. It took 8 hours for anyone to get up from the main game, lol. I've been playing 11 hours and I'm still like 5th on the must move list. Pretty crazy.
This is our last stop before we head back to CT where our families are. It will be nice to be able to relax and no longer be living out of a car
I'm looking forward to doing nothing but smoke and Fallout 4. I'll post a full trip summary when we get there.
