That being said, I still have a long way to go... I feel like I picked up LO8 pretty fast, but adjusting to big bet games seems to be more difficult for me. In limit games, it is usually "when in doubt, continue". In big bet games, it is "when in doubt, fold". Also, when I tilt in LHE, I open T9o in the CO when I shouldn't which doesn't really matter. When I tilt in PLO, I shove the flop in a spot when I should know I am crushed and light- a few hours of winrate on fire.
PLO variance is no joke. The more I play, the higher I keep raising my bankroll standards. 100 BIs for the limit you want to play regularly doesn't seem like a crazy or overly conservative idea. You really need to be able to not flinch at the thought of losing 5 BIs in rapid succession.
I also really feel like while you're learning new games, it's pretty natural to hit some downswings, especially when you're in stages where you're kind of throwing **** at the wall, finding out what sticks. If you're concerning yourself early in your development with stuff like reducing variance, you're doing it wrong. I have to constantly remind myself of that when I'm playing PLO, because it can be pretty tempting to just out-nit the table sometimes.
