Version 7.0: Screw Politics Let's Drink Version 7.0: Screw Politics Let's Drink

I am violating my religion by starting a post in this forum but I'm already drinking so I have an excuse. Since the moderation thread needs to get back on track, I submit that this is a reasonable thread to start. And many here seem to have great ideas about various alcoholic beverages. So pooling our resources for better and more drinking is making the world a better place. Food pairings also welcome.

American brewers make the best IPA's in the world. The UK tribes make some dashing good ales. Belgium and Czech also excel at various beers.

The UK tribes (including the Irish, just to give them a poke in the eye) are the haven of whisky.

The French seem to think they produce the best wine and not without justice. But other countries compete strongly.

Oban is one of my favorite single malts along with Talisker, and not too hard on the pocketbook. I tend to shy away from the heavier smoky and peaty whisky.

By the way, Spanish and Italian wines are often overlooked in threads like this. Let's remedy that.

Cheers, and drink up............

I did the ole' drink-and-play at the card club the other night. Stella. Call this op the "All Things in MODERATION, Drink Up" Thread.

Th thread title reminds me.

When we are asked to taste wine these days: Are we supposed to discuss whether it's screwed or not?

Armagnac is great (see link below) was introduced to this a few years ago while visiting friends in southern France. Wonderful after dinner drink and to pair with different cheese, which many of the snobby French have for desert after a large dinner. They gab, drink, and suck down their smelly cheese concoctions. The Armagnac embellishes the entire experience.

Cheers!

Much prefer the Leffe blonde. Love Erdinger if you enjoy wheat beers. Mostly I'm lucky to live in an area where real ales are a way of life so there's no shortage of good stuff to sup.

I'm having a homemade mocha milkshake at this moment.

Erdinger is awesome. First time I had it was in the town of Erdinger and I didn't know what is was. Leffe Blonde is undrinkable crap though.

That's how I feel about its darker companion. Best German beer I ever had was Schlenkerla. It's a dark, smoked beer.

Long Hammer IPA (6.2 %) by Redhook brewery is my standard everyday Beer. You can get it by the half-case, if needed. Excellent daily beer or for pounding down in massive quantities while watching the NFL Playoffs and eating burgers and/or chips*.

*American chips, not the limey kind. Although this beer does go will with fish and chips also.

Drinking confessions:

I sometimes combine quality bourbon with ginger ale.

I like all types of different craft beers, but sometimes I just want a couple pints of guinness.

I have no shame about sipping on a Washington Apple cocktail when the time calls for it.

So any 2 with an Ace, go for the gusto.

Get yourself some ginger wine if you're going to mix it imo.

My opponents like to play with their cards face up, which makes my wall easier.

If I had tried Calvados (or any apple brandy), I would have an opinion. Since I never have, I can only say that I would drink it to give it a chance. Almost all alcoholic beverages deserve a chance. Those that do not would make a very interesting and exclusive list. That would be a very entertaining enterprise to undertake.

I think American Brewers are tremendous.

Sure for a while there was a ridiculous chase for bigly IBU and ABV in IPAs - but lately flavor and balance has become much more important.

Americans also brew tremendous stouts (even though I'm bored with them at the moment) and have brought styles like gose back from the brink of extinction.

American brewers have even spawned innovation in Belgium with many experimenting with American citrus hops in saisons and belgian pales.
