Its not necessarily about the mail but even FedEx utilizes the US Postal service for final delivery to addresses FedEx does not go to. My post was to the fact that the large carriers of packages, who do charge according to DISTANCE and WEIGHT, depend upon the postal service while going within their routes thus making them more profitable.
And so, not only does granny receive packages as according to distance and weight but also does the same when she sends a package.
Of course she has the fixed rate for letters but so does the majority of Americans who, by and large, have gone to email or just the phone. Of course there are still letter writers.
The burden of cost for delivering anything to the country, of course, will be charged to you and I if the postal service closes. That means that Fedex will have to hire more drivers, planes, automobiles, accountants, planners, and whatever it takes to replace what the postal service does for them.
One can say, and I will say, that the large carriers and yourself have received the boon of the postal service and in the process have kept down the prices and increased facility of package and postal delivery in general.
Granny can very well take care of herself but don't believe that you are not a recipient of the gratis of the postal service. To pick on granny is poor form especially when she can kick your butt and if not, her grandson Homer, a perspicacious young man would certainly beriddle you with the effects of any inconsequential and prurient disquisition.
