And this thread, ladies and gentlemen, showcases a reason of why there is so much sexism in video games.

I don't see how feminism in general is relevant to gender models/sexism in games. Obv this is not a clear cut status.

Who the **** are we white knighting btw? I generally felt disgusted while playing Arkham City when it came to females in that game in any way. It felt like awkward teen fantasy.

Well sexism is a feminist word so yes its relevant and by being a feminist word we almost only use it when speaking about females.

Do you get disgusted by the extreme sterotyping(sexism) of male chars in game? Like the overly stupid villains that say dumb things normal people dont say or the hero with alot of muscle but borderline ******ed?

How many people would buy this with a guy in a speedo wit the shot centered around the dick?

No sexism at all. Also lol at extreme stereotyping = sexism. You don't know what it means, do you?

This is exactly my problem with women, and with the ****ing pussies who support this feminist crap and who dare to call themselves men these days. WHY should we have to change it so women like it better? We like it this ***** way. But read further I will try to make an intelligent argument :

My point is, if women want more games geared towards them, why dont they make some games geared towards them. Apparantly there are no women doing that , standing up and basicly upgrading the quality and depth of games. or else it would be done already. Thats the difference between men and women, if we dont like something we try to change it. If women dont like something they whine and whine and hope the men change it for them. They want their cake and eat it too.

video games are in a pretty large way a form of escapism. Because its more and more becoming a womens world. Women have less to escape from i supose.

Besides i fail to see how the majority of games is sexist. What about uncharted? Portal and Mirror's edge both had females in the lead. No one lives forever 1 and 2? Those games didnt portray the stereotypical dumb girls in bikini. I doubt many women play those games. They just like to whine about it, and then when those games are released they moved on to something else. To whine about. Because they all were financial disasters (besides portal)

I do find it dissapointing that attempts to move games further like no one lives forever portal and mirrors edge did all failed pretty hard. They were great games, but simply didnt sell. Maybe all those women having a problem with that could buy those games and actually help the industry grow?

I hate sexism in video games because it generally lazy writing, shows immaturity of the writers/intended target audience and is awkward at best. It would be probably good for the gaming industry and games in general to have larger audience, because it would mean more games to me. I'm as selfish as it gets.

Soo it's a bad word and I can't use it?

Sputnik, give examples of sexism of male characters.

Sexism (from English sex, gender, and-ism, ideological direction) or less correct gender racism, prejudice, means loaded discrimination, oppression and exploitation of people simply because of gender. The term was coined by the women's movement in the United States in the 1960s as a parallel formation to racism.

Womens movement was the start of the feminist movement.

Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex.[1] Sexist attitudes may stem from traditional stereotypes of gender roles and may include the belief that a person of one sex is intrinsically superior to a person of the other. in other words sexism is not only about boobs and good looks its about pretty much everything so that you can pretty much call sexist at anything that isnt to your liking.

Hopefully youll get there soon.

I like how you removed the "citation needed" but left the annotation for the rest.
06-08-2013 , 09:04 AM
I like how you in true spirit refuses to answer to the written and instead focuses on that part.
06-08-2013 , 09:06 AM
I still can't figure out how that is relevant in any way or form.

It's a pretty good word imo.
06-08-2013 , 09:09 AM
Because you make no point. Just because someone first used the word somewhere doesn't mean it's "their" word. Sexism is a word in common usage and refers to somethign specific. It is not "someones" word.

So racism would lose all value just because it may have been coined by a black guy? Sexism exists, just like racism.

Yes Sexism is not their word but when you use that word you need to understand and believe in all other aspects of that word. Like Patriarchy, Glass ceiling, wage gaps rape culture and so on that the feminists believe in. They are all connected

No they are not. Every word has a specific meaning, indipendent from other words.

If you say racism you mean exactly that. Not slavery, not crime rates, not anything else. Same for sexism.

Words have definitions.

by wires?

if they dont ***** like it why dont they try to change it. Apparantly women secretly like it this way. Why else is 50 shades of grey so popular? If they really wanted intelligent video games with strong women in it, they would sell better.

And duke nuke em and some zombie game are not all video games.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make with this or if you are being sarcastic but the character in Journey is genderless.

Speaking of Journey here is a write up on a talk by Jenova Chen and his views on male and female demographics however it doesn't really say anything that isn't obvious. - http://www.ripten.com/2012/03/07/jou...nder-and-more/

So it took less than a day for this to turn into an MRA thread. Goofy was right this thread has aids from the start.

They are. This is kind of the point of things like tropes versus women, To point out to an industry that many of the things they take for granted are juvenile and hurtful towards 50% of the human population. But let's not be considerate of the needs of others because we need our lives to be saturated with sexy female imagery 24/7. We live in the age where you can access free high def nude imagery of women any time of day, it wouldn't kill men to turn their raging boners off for the few hours a day they play video games so that we can get real women into gaming.

I weep for the future.

TIL - Throwing around the phrase "White knighting" is shorthand for, "Duh, I have no point to make, but I like boobies!"

How did we get from, "I wish we could have non-******ed storylines in video games." and "It would make good business sense for video games to expand their audience towards women".

To:

"De evils wimmen ownzes u testicles!"
