I've gotten well over $100,000 in direct cash money from the federal government. I've paid something like negative $300 in federal income taxes.

I love your rationalization. You had a job. The government took it away and rather than trying anything else you just gave up on your principles and decided to take money you feel was stolen unfairly from other people.

Also, there are private grants afaik. Awards and scholarships and the like.
