I doubt it would be wise for the repubs to do what they are almost definitely going to do, which is attempt to obstruct the appointing of a new SCOTUS member. The propsect of Sanders appointing one should really scare the **** out of them but they will not be able to admit they just lost out here and salvage what they can, they being the recalcitrant jackasses they are.

The smart thing to do would be to let Obama make the appointment instead of risking a Sanders appointment because a Hillary appointment will be no better for them than Obama's. And it might be worse- Obama is a proven center-right administrator who is guaranteed not to mess with the status quo. Hillary figures to be the same, but is not as proven. They should game this toward denying Sanders an opportunity at all costs because they simply have no strong POTUS candidate. Or maybe they could wait a bit to see how Sanders does, but I doubt he is even in their obstructionist calculus. At the very least, they should wait to see what kind of mealy mouthed centrist Obama submits.
