Then why is Trump lying about it? You're right, it doesn't matter how many people were at the inauguration what does matter is having an administration in power that feels they have to lie about it.

Yes he is and I look forward to 4 years of him telling us this over and over again while campaigning for a job he already has.

Three questions:
1. When Sean Spicer goes up to the podium and litigates the crowd size issue for several minutes, ultimately saying "this was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe", what do you think the media - whose job it is to report on the WH - should do about that? Apparently the answer isn't "report on it", so I'm curious.

2. Trump clearly thinks crowd sizes matter a lot, why is it petty for people to engage him on things he totally wants to argue about?

3. Do you not think it's noteworthy that the President is sending out his press secretary to lie to the public about something so trivial and easily falsifiable on day one?

You could do with a few more English lessons, comrade.

Spicer very eloquently addressed all of those questions in todays press conference. You should watch it when you get a chance.

I watched it live. He didn't address #1 or #2.

Regarding #3, Spicer claims he was misinterpreted and never claimed the in-person crowd was the largest ever. It's hard to believe him, given that at the time he made those claims, he cited completely incorrect ridership numbers (he said more people rode the DC metro for Trump's inauguration than for Obama's; that is not true) to support the in-person claim. Why would he have done so if he was apparently never trying to suggest that Trump's crowd was the largest?

(if you want to say that the above also answers #1, then #1 could just as easily apply to Trump making the outlandish claim that 1.5 million people were at the inauguration earlier in the day - what would you, and kioshk, prefer the media to do with that, since the answer appears to be something besides "report on it"?)

Not sure what you watched? He addressed question one at length and very satisfactorily. Question 2 isn't even a question but simply your opinion which you are welcome to.

I watched the press conference. You're welcome to give your own responses to my questions in lieu of just asserting without any evidence that they were answered. Given that they're directed at posters ITT like you and kioshk, I'm not sure how you can suggest that Sean Spicer of all people answered them and told us how you feel (unless how you feel at any given moment is simply whatever Sean Spicer tells you to feel, which I would understand I guess).

Uh, yes it is. Why is it petty to engage Trump on things that he thinks are important enough to talk about in speeches and press conferences?

The president seems to be very concerned as he mentioned it in his first post innauguration speech then has the first wh press briefing about only this issue. Then it is brought up again in the first whps press conference.

Seems like Trump cares about it more than anyone.

If he thinks petty issues are important enough to talk about in speeches then I don't think anything we do can will prevent it remaining petty.

More importantly it's distracting people who must have something more useful to do and report on. That seems to be his mo though I'm not sure it's calculated - he may well actually be that petty and ridiculous.

NYT: In Meeting With Congressional Leaders, Trump Falsely Blames Illegal Immigrants for Loss of Popular Vote

Quote:
President Trump used his first official meeting with congressional leaders on Monday to gripe about his loss of the popular vote, falsely telling the lawmakers that he would have won a majority if millions of illegal immigrants had not voted against him.

The claim, which he has made before on Twitter, has been judged to be untrue by numerous fact-checkers. But the new president’s willingness to bring it up at Monday’s White House reception in the State Dining Room is an indication that he remains focused on his election even assuming power.

Mr. Trump won 304 electoral votes to capture the presidency, but he fell almost three million votes short of Hillary Clinton in the popular vote. That reality appears to have bothered the president since Election Day, prompting him to repeatedly complain that adversaries were trying to undermine his legitimacy.
mrbaseball, kioshk, other Trumpkins: is this also going to "petty lengths" to try to discredit Trump? When he says plainly false things like this, is the media supposed to just ignore it?

i think Trump was trolling
01-24-2017 , 12:29 AM
What is the point of the president "trolling?"
01-24-2017 , 12:55 AM
Trump is just havin' fun out there, riling up the haters and whatnot. Think big picture, that's what Trump does. Somewhat like Reagan in that way.
