Possible issues with "10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman" video Possible issues with "10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman" video

This video seems at first to show how disturbing it is for a woman to walk around NYC. But thinking about the video, one could also suggest that its the woman who is the problem. Why is it that its only blacks that seems to be talking to the woman? Surely there were whites who made comments to the woman in the video, but they are not shown.

what? Please outline what in the video she's doing that suggests she is the problem. She's literally just walking.

I have not seen where someone saw this but apparently that was addressed somewhere. If I recall correctly, the producers of the video said they felt bad because a lot of the white guys who commented did so but were off camera so it wasn't included.

I know I've seen several people comment about the race but I have to admit when I watched it I didn't notice there were no white guys. Perhaps because I've seen enough white guys do this over the years in my head I just pictured guys of all races doing it?

As it turns out, thekid is not alone with his absurd view that something is wrong with the woman. Now, the subject of the video is getting rape/death threats. http://www.vox.com/2014/10/29/708886...k-rape-threats

Instead of just lol-ing at this, I'll engage you. If one could also suggest that it's the woman who is the problem, are you the one. If so, why would she be the problem. If not, can you link to someone whose arguments about the woman being the problem is something you want people to react to? Do you have an answer for the question you pose: "Why is it that its only blacks that seems to be talking to the woman? "

One thing that I think people do miss with the racial issues surrounding the video is that there absolutely are different cultural norms in terms of "hollering" in the fashion that's shown in the video.

Dids, Jmakin, Anaias, why not just go ahead and input your opinion on this topic? Or not, you can continue to post stuff itt not related to the OP

And Kurto , I said But thinking about the video, one could also suggest that its the woman who is the problem.

Your acting like some sort of interrogator here. Step back a second. I did not say the woman was the problem, I said one could also suggest that its the woman who is the problem..

This video has caused a conversation around the world, Im not the person suggesting the woman is the problem, thats happening all over the place. Even on Fox News, some of the anchorwomen were disapproving of the womans actions in video.

This is the major issue IMO, the fact that Batair made the Burka comment, as well as Dids, Anais and Jmakins comments itt, is a sign that some folks are unable to have a conversation.

In any event,

If you watched the video, there is an argument to be made that the woman in the video has intentionally or unintentionally misrepresented black folks.

Both the actress in the video, and the editor, ought to explain why we only see blacks making the most provocative comments

If you're saying one could also suggest that its the woman who is the problem I'm asking you to elaborate. Perhaps from lack of imagination, it never crosses my mind watching it that there's a problem with the woman. If someone suggests that "one could suggest" that the problem in the video rests with the woman, and I don't see it and think it sounds outlandish, its natural for me to ask the person who suggested otherwise to elaborate.

If that makes me an interrogator then I will accept that.

Just to be clear - I did not assume that the woman edited the video. And to be honest, I didn't notice that the men were all black until people started alleging a racial component.

Also- as you know by now, an article has been posted where the maker of the video claims any racial representations were unintentional, that there were white people but there comments were always off camera so they weren't shown. So they actually have explained why we only see blacks making the most provocative comments.

Here's a pretty hot take on one of the (white, male) producers of the video. Cliffs: some of his previous stances on gentrification issues leads the author of this piece to question whether the lack of white males in the video really was as coincidental as the producer claimed.

Intersectionality ftl???

I don't contribute anything more than a "lol" to your post because you're too ******ed to argue with, are eventually gonna find a way to bring this back to islam (we're halfway there already with the slut shaming, she should wear a burka imo) and just generally avoid honest discussion anyway, so what's the point?

In short, lol thekid, forever and always. Please don't reproduce.

This seems pretty dumb.

The video makes such a powerful statement that I think its value far outweighs any of the concerns about sharing- but especially this one, which basically has nothing to do with the content of the video and argues we shouldn't share it because the guy who made it might have ****ty politics.
