Pope Francis - What a Hypocrite! Pope Francis - What a Hypocrite!

02-18-2016 , 08:59 PM
I heard today that Francis said Trump is non-Christian for wanting to build a wall at the southern US border.

I immediately thought to myself "wait a minute...isn't Vatican City surrounded by walls?".

And yes it is: From the Vatican City wiki page:

"Vatican City...is a walled enclave and sovereign state within the city of Rome."

"For some tracts of the frontier, there was no wall, but the line of certain buildings supplied part of the boundary, and for a small part of the frontier a modern wall was constructed."

From History.com/topics/vatican-city

"Following an attack by Saracen pirates that damaged St. Peter’s in 846, Pope Leo IV ordered the construction of a wall to protect the holy basilica and its associated precincts. Completed in 852, the 39-foot-tall wall enclosed what was inaugurated Leonine City, an area covering the current Vatican territory and the Borgo district. The walls were continually expanded and modified until the reign of Pope Urban VIII in the 1640s."

My hypocrites are subtle, and it's often questionable whether they are hypocrites. But Pope Francis has made it pretty obvious that he's a big hypocrite. I later read an article in which someone in the Trump campaign has pointed out this same hypocrisy.

I just lost some respect for the Pope.

Is the purpose of the Vatican's wall to keep rapists aka brown people out?

This guy has chutzpah to spare, thinks he's Emperor of the World or something with all these grand pronouncements he makes every few days. He's laughable and delusional, thinking anybody cares. Even Catholics barely care about Church teaching these days.

You're talking about Trump here, right?

No, it's the pope, but he could just as easily be describing Barry too.

This is the Q&A from the news conference. It's pretty clear the Pope doesn't know anything about Trump and is just responding to the question.
Quote:
Phil Pullella, Reuters: Today, you spoke very eloquently about the problems of immigration. On the other side of the border, there is a very tough electoral battle. One of the candidates for the White House, Republican Donald Trump, in an interview recently said that you are a political man and he even said that you are a pawn, an instrument of the Mexican government for migration politics. Trump said that if he’s elected, he wants to build 2,500 kilometers of wall along the border. He wants to deport 11 million illegal immigrants, separating families, etcetera. I would like to ask you, what do you think of these accusations against you and if a North American Catholic can vote for a person like this?

Pope Francis: Thank God he said I was a politician because Aristotle defined the human person as 'animal politicus.' At least I am a human person. As to whether I am a pawn, well, maybe, I don't know. I'll leave that up to your judgment and that of the people. And then, a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the Gospel. As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not going to get involved in that. I say only that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that. We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give the benefit of the doubt.
A very reasonable objection would be that the Pope should concentrate on Trump's statements and beliefs and whether they're consistent with the Christian Gospel, and refrain from calling Trump himself "not Christian". Thinking his answer is hypocritical because the Vatican has walls is just stupid.

If the pope concentrated on his own beliefs, he would see that many are not consistent with the Christian Gospel, and he is therefore "not Christian". Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, or he can always reread Matthew 7:3, and it has nothing to do with the Vatican's walls.

Well we are talking about offended trump supporters, who suddenly care very much about keeping things PC, so stupidity is implied.

Now this is the kind of thread and OP that PU is here for!
02-19-2016 , 04:16 PM
Wouldn't the Pope have to be responsible for the wall's existence to be a hypocrite?
02-19-2016 , 04:41 PM
Mr. Pope, tear down this wall!

Vatican spokesman is walking back the comments today btw.

1. The pope had no idea who Trump was, he gave a generic answer to a question posed to him.
2. Comparing a wall built to protect a village from invaders hundreds of years ago to a wall built to keep illegal immigrants out, people Trump has referred to as rapists and murderers is the height of stupidity.
3. I don't give a **** if someone is or is not "a Christian" I find "Christians" to insufferable hypocrites more interested in preventing other people from doing what they want than living a righteous life of service to their god.
4. **** off with your indignation over a throw away quote from the figure head of a made up cult about a racist self indulgent ******* running for office. You're a puppet of your conservative machine, try and have a thought now and again.

Did the pope have the walls put up when he moved in?

^ Typical liberal response from kerowo. Can't have a simple discussion without insulting someone and calling them a racist. After your recent posts, I take an insult from you as a compliment. Have a nice day!

^ Typical conservative response, avoid the accusations that they are being stupid puppets of their conservative talk show hosts. You are literally getting upset over a misquote. You are literally getting upset that your apples aren't oranges.

Please site the post where I'm getting upset about Trump being called a non-Christian. My point is that the pope is a hypocrite for calling ANYONE a non Christian. If you want to have a discussion about this, I'd be happy to, soon as you grow up and stop making false accusations and throwing insults.

I don't want to discuss your mythical sky being anymore than I want to discuss The Lord of the Rings with you.

It seems like your main point is that you disagree with Catholic teachings. Me too, although for different reasons than you, but who cares?

If a genie gave the pope one wish and he could either stop all abortions or prevent the wall, which would he pick? Not close right? Thus the hypocrisy comes from those people who want to invoke his opinions when they happen to agree with him without acknowledging that they might as well be invoking a coincidental agreement with Glenn Beck.

Believe it or not the Pope is a Catholic, and therefore doesn't interact with djinns or 'genies', who exist only in Islam.

Now he's saying the world needs to end the death penalty. Seriously, who the hell does this guy think he is. He's more full of himself than even Kanye!
