What is the penultimate world religion? What is the penultimate world religion?

Just want to get a feel for what you guys think is the second worst religion in the world today. Feel free to include any personal anecdotes or standardized test scores in your explanation.

All of them suck and are based on fiction.

I think there's only one truly terrible religion in the world. All the rest are pretty benign in comparison.

Hinduism is a weird mind-rot kind of religion, although the people who believe don't matter matter much and without religion would be like Jiggs anyway.

So yeah. Maybe Hinduism get second most ignoble religion.

Jehovah Witness's. They've bothered me way more that any Muslim ever has.

Is Voodoo a religion? I've been terrified of that ever since I saw Live and Let Die.

At first was neither Being nor Non-being.
There was not air nor yet sky beyond.
What was its wrapping? Where? In whose protection?
Was Water there, unfathomable and deep?

There was no death then, nor yet deathlessness;
of night or day there was not any sign.
The One breathed without breath, by its own impulse.
Other than that was nothing else at all.

Darkness was there, all wrapped around by darkness,
and all was Water indiscriminate. Then
that which was hidden by the Void, that One, emerging,
stirring, through power of Ardor came to be...

Who really knows? Who can presume to tell it?
Whence was it born? Whence issued this creation?
Even the gods came after its emergence
Then who can tell from whence it came to be?

That out of which creation has arisen,
whether it held it firm or it did not,
He who surveys it in the highest heaven,
He surely knows -- or maybe He does not!

(from Nasadiya Sukta, Rg Veda X,129)

One of my favorite Bonds! Cole Porter advises us all to "do do that voodoo that you do so well."

I used to date a voodoo priestess. She'd take forever getting all dolled up.

Say a devout follower of _______ becomes a suicide bomber blows up a school full of unbelievers.

There's two religions I can think of where everyone goes to hell except the suicide bomber.

Hmmm, very interesting. I am assuming you crushed the LSAT?

Judaism is full of genocide, etc., but is fortunately watered down now. Christianity is losing its bite, but still has claws in parts of the world. Scientology is just weird.

There are cults that most of us have never heard of. For example I'd never have known of the Branch Davidians if they hadn't gotten themselves burned up.

Islam.
12-22-2016 , 04:01 AM
Bokononism. To hell with that jiggaboo bastard.
12-26-2016 , 04:16 PM
Rastafarianism
12-26-2016 , 07:02 PM
Nah. I rented an apartment to a Rastafarian who, on first impression, looked like the LAST person you'd want to meet in a dark alley but turned out to be one of the nicest ppl I've ever met.

That's easy. Democracy is second worse to Theocracy. No matter what you say, what kind of rational arguments you can bring towards a free society, no matter how many failures of democracy you can point out, there's the endless fallback that the wheels of democracy magically solve problems. And, at the end of the day, everyone's like, "omg without democracy where would we be?"

The Middle East looks great, btw.

That might make an interesting discussion. I read a book wherein two bible professors called the Mormons a cult so I assume that I know what they'd say about a branch of a branch of the Seventh Day Adventists. And there are always the lovely folks at the Westboro Baptist Church.

Well it's awfully convenient if we get to lump all Muslims together but dismiss all radical Christians groups as non-Christian.
01-01-2017 , 08:37 PM
The ppl that lump all Muslims together don't know what they're talking about and I pay no attention to their policy preferences except to oppose them. Sometimes I'll try to talk to them but it's usually useless.
