It was a composition written for the Harlem Six, a case in which six black men were arrested for a murder and only one was responsible.

The sample was picked from tapes of interviews, where one of the innocent men was recalling how he'd had to demonstrate that he'd been beaten because the police were denying him medical attention - "I had to, like, open the bruise up, and let some of the bruise blood come out to show them". It showcases Reich's work with phasing techniques where a sample or melody is played together and moves in and out of sync.

A sample of it also appears above.

Alright Mr Mat gets pissy if there is no personal story so...

I come form a pretty artistic family who had a lot of friends who played music and sang and when i was around 10 or so i remember sitting around a campfire by the lake with my mom and her friends singing big yellow taxi.

From the radical perspective, not the conservative one:

From the angst of my youth. It's close between The Shape of Punk to Come and Minor Threat's discography as to what finally got me to embrace punk. I guess it was growing up around a bunch of Greenday and Offspring fans that had me thinking it was all slightly less poppy than pop crap. Refused felt like true rejection of the institutions around me.

"Well, I'm still certain that what motivates me is more rewarding than any piece of paper could be
Well adjusted & corrupt, all those icons that stole our teenage lust
A scenario of simplicity, a scenario of you and me
A scenario of simplicity, a scenario of you and me
Rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in
Rather be forgotten than remembered - remembered - for giving in
