here's the idea: post political songs, personal to you., i assume all songs can be found on youtube these days. explain how they make you feel. i'll go first.

i had a hippy mother and the first song had a catchy tune that i did and do like a whole bunch, but i was also influenced by that culture well into adulthood. i assumed i was a true "liberal" by her and similar music for a long time.:

jump to today:

the guy listening to this song is rooting for trump. same guy. just a point on the spectrum.

before i lay my head to sleep, however, :

i do think this could be a fun thread. more about sharing music than anything else.

A song about giving back to the native Australians. I'm sure most here are familiar with it.

I'm not saying this is my most favorite. That's going to be Rage or the Clash or something.

Note: The lyrics don't actually say why "they fight" at all. For me I really think: great song first, then political content or connection. Great song as in I can keep on enjoying it simply as a song. I this song.

Pair it with the video however, and it tells the story of exactly why I fight.

ETA: Beds are Burning ^^^ is another favorite of mine... and another great song, even if it was about a fire down at Sleep Train.

Good thread. Not the best song or band ever but the Sex Pistols mark my earliest political memories. There's something really special for me about the God Save The Queen boat trip but I suppose it has to be this:

With a slightly bizarre clip from an art house film...

From the best rock album of all time:

Who – Baba O'riley Lyrics

Out here in the fields,
I farm for my meals,
I get my back into my living.
I don't need to fight,
To prove I'm right,
I don't need to be forgiven.

Don't cry,
Don't raise your eye,
It's only teenage wasteland.

Sally take my hand,
We'll travel south cross land,
Put out the fire,
And don't look past my shoulder.
The Exodus is here,
The happy ones are near,
Let's get together, before we get much older.

Teenage wasteland,
It's only teenage wasteland,
Teenage wasteland,
Oh yeah, teenage wasteland,
They're all wasted!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

This says it all:

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

Baba O'Riley wasn't political: it was about the youth at Woodstock; WGFA obviously was.

The Rage Against the Machine album 'The Battle of Los Angeles' is one of my favorite albums ever and the entire thing is very political, anti establishment and anti capitalism. The music rocks very hard and the lyrics are profound.

'Calm like a Bomb':

'The vultures robbin' everything, leave nothin' but chains

Pick a point on the globe, yes the picture's the same

There's a bank, there's a church, a myth and a hearse

A mall and a loan, a child dead at birth

There's a widow pig parrot, a rebel to tame

A white hooded judge, a syringe and a vein

And the riot be the rhyme of unheard'

Entire album:

I am finding myself liking other peoples recommendations here, good idea for a thread. The Who, Dylan, Bob Marley and the Stones among others are all great political music. Figured I'd throw some RATM in here since their entire focus is political.

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Problem with this thread is there's so much to chose from. Needs to be something from Roger Waters

and some lyrics from 'when the Tigers broke free' about his Dads death, emphasis is on the last line:

Quote:
And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, I recall,
In the form of a scroll,
With gold leaf adorned,
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp.

Hendrix GOAT

And a UK thing

Some coincidences are especially eerie. I had just thought about posting Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner from Woodstock, a searing political statement to all the distortions that are America. Dereds beat me to the punch. Well done.

No video, but who cares with him playing like this?
