"[Bloomberg] would be willing to spend at least $1 billion of his fortune on [a 2016 presidential campaign]"
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/24/ny...house-run.html
he says he'd run independent only if it's Trump or Cruz v Sanders

but why? does he really think he can win as independent? or is he playing spoiler for... who?

I love Bloomberg. Effective mayor, brilliant businessman, socially progressive. High-level office experience beyond that of many of the characters in the race.

He can't win, or even draw all that much interest, as an Independent. His stance on guns will turn off anyone right of center; you cannot blast the NRA and the 2nd the way he has and get away with it nationally (keeping in mind that the key swing states like PA, FL, and VA are heavily gun-obsessed). He also has minimal profile outside of NYC, and he's way late to the party.

He's nothing whatsoever like Trump, Cruz, or Rubio, so I would imagine he'd siphon more votes from Dems.

Millions die in poverty as we post on our electronic toys. The cost of which (in most cases) could feed one of these dying people for a year, maybe more. Dont get it twisted kids.

**Full disclosure: I post on a Gtab2 I got at a yard sale for $15USD.

Indeed. But we can always google "Charity Water" or anything alike and help whenever we can. Right?....Right?...

I somehow feel this thread will sink into nothingness, many will find it quite unpleasant to read.

Ironically, forgetting about all that (or finding some kind of excuse) makes one sleep better at night.

And a million times better than Killary or Bernie.

Obama campaign raised billion each cycle right? What is your view on that? Worse, better, justified as opposed to what Bloomberg is willing to spend?
03-01-2016 , 10:42 PM
You really think a billion is a large number compared to the value of having an incrementally better president?

The real shame is that the cost of the entire process is easily in the 10s of billions and ends up with a result that reflects the opinions of a population that polls consistently show is completely out of touch with reality.

Didn't Bloomberg **** a bunch of stuff in nyc up? Stop n frisk, broken windows, etc.

BB would siphon more votes from Republicans.... this is a slamdunk truth.. I see so many people arguing the opposite, which is astonishing to me.

1) His last official party WAS Republican. Perhaps this shouldn't matter as much as it should but we'd be foolish to think it doesn't matter. The little (R) was next to his name for a long time and it's in voter's minds.

2)3rd party Candidates (Unless they're like running under the Liberal/Communist Party) always pick up more votes from the right than from the left, it's always been this way and will be this way even more so this year. People that vote Democrat just because they hate Conservatives always vote Democrat. People that vote Republican because they hate Liberals are way more willing to vote for anything as long as it isn't a Liberal and are far less loyal to the "Republican brand" as a whole.

Just look at the primaries races for christ's sakes.

On the left we have:

Genuine Nice Old Man who is embodiment of Progressiveness and everything Liberals are Clamoring For vs. Evil Corporate Owned Establishment Psychopath

On the right we have:

Three REAL Republicans of varying degrees of conservative vs a Not-Even-A-Real-Conservative who says crazy stuff all the time.

...And who is winning each race? Liberals vote the Democrat, no matter what. Conservatives do not

Plenty who identify as liberal and vote conservative on account of as little as one key issue. As an example - liberal jews routinely vote conservative if they pay the right amount of lip service to israel. I would argue that very few voters have a rigid idea of where they sit on an abstract continuum that most wouldn't even agree on a definition for.

What modern US politics has devolved into is two parties defining themselves on a smorgasbord of special interests that political strategists in each party think will be a recipe for success.

Trump redefined what special interests he thought are worth playing to. And he was right. Bigotry and low brow jokes really do speak to uneducated, low income white people who want to feel like they're special.

Well... some rational people sympathize with those low income white people... they're the only low income people who aren't constantly told they are special I'll leave this little SJW sanctuary alone now

If you think him playing to that base comes from a place of compassion you need to take a closer look at his past.

grunching...

i like bloomberg as politician too... done alot of simple common sense stuff

i agree with the "spend x$$$$$ on Y when there are people starving".... basically put in anything (vacations, nights out, a new car etc.)

a billion dollars is nothing to get a good president..

the press said bloomberg would probably only run if sanders was candidate...

dislike hillary soooo much but can't support trump. i think trump could literally try to be dictator i.e. no more democracy

Who the * needs a dictator when we have this can of ****?
