Everyone was so absolutely sure they couldn't lose they were betting money they didn't have. It's a travesty. I don't root for people to lose their money like that.

It's the groupthink. It's really bad. You can't let one way of thinking dominate discussion or people will get blindsided by events like that. The entire fiasco should be an eye-opening experience, yet what result did we see? Double down on the same thing that caused it.

Completely awful way to respond.
There's a bunch wrong with this.

First, yes, granted, people were probably overconfident that Hillary was going to win. People definitely lost money betting on Hillary. So what? I don't go there for the election prediction prowess and I never claimed I did. I don't go there for betting advice and I never claimed I did.

How do you figure that being wrong about the result of one election invalidates someone's reasoning on anything forever?

Also, you call it groupthink but the conservatives didn't think Trump was going to win either. Trump didn't think Trump was going to win.

Dids left the forum. It wasn't because of money. He wasn't a good poster anyway, in my opinion.

I disagree with you. I don't think it was a trivial thing that the vast majority of people were so wrong. And they continue to be wrong. This entire travel ban thing is absurd. How could people not realize it would be upheld?

It's almost like reality has been suspended. I feel uneasy about all of this. I literally feel like the entire world has gone crazy. I almost wish I was crazy with them so I could stop feeling so torn about it.

It hasn't been, so you're kinda playing yourself here.

And which one of his bans was going to be upheld. The first one he proposed when he said all Muslims will be banned. The seconded one where he let in Christians form the ban list but not Muslims and had Iraq on there. Or the revised one he is going for now.

Saying i always knew the ban would be upheld is funny stuff given the changes he had to make.

You don't find it a little troubling that every excuse from the left anymore is a technicality? Like, do you claim victory if Trump's ban version 2.0 is upheld because version 1 wasn't?

I really don't understand you people. It's like you've all regressed into a childlike state. Wtf is this crap?

If the travel ban is eventually not upheld by SCOTUS this fall, does that mean that you have gone crazy, given your repeated claims that it's totally obvious it should be and everyone else is dumb for not seeing it?

Im not calming victory. Im claiming your claim the travel ban would be upheld is empty when some of the many bans have been defeated.

Dids is fine. Wil doesn't know what he's talking about as usual.

I was just looking at this piece in the Atlantic referencing some research by Cass Sunstein on the effects of echo chambers on political polarization. Seemed like a P7 kind of article. There are probably conclusions that some people would want to draw from this kind of research which I'd disagree with, but I do worry about the effects of social media in this regard. 2+2 is my miniature research sandbox on these questions :P

I don't read the main forum much, I just remember someone said someone didn't post since the election. I thought it was him, maybe it was someone else. I wasn't making it up.

I think it would be a travesty of justice. As far as feeling crazy, I feel like I've been losing my mind since about August of 2016. Everything is wrong.

It is no surprise the liberals on 2+2 are encased in groupthink. The main forum is idiocy, supported by a mod that tends to kick out people who think differently.

Liberalism in America right now is in serious danger. Liberalism is no longer liberal. I can't understand why people can't see this. It's very frustrating.

Sadly I agree: Liberalism is on the way out; fascism on the way in.

made some kebabs with boneless/skinless chicken thighs and onion tonight, along with a couscous with almonds and raisons with saffron and onions.

It's simple but I'm really digging this salt/pepper/ginger/cinnamon rub for the chicken

Oh and my obligatory 3 glasses of wine LDO

Sounds like it smells delicious.

Here is some light reading on race and culture: ( bonus- Canadian nationalism)

People always say white folks have no culture but of course that isn't true.

To state the obvious, "white" is a descriptor that applies to people of various backgrounds. But there are also things that are distinctly white, even though you may not think twice about it: Salads. Hockey. Burning Man. Gore-tex. As a brown girl growing up in Canada, I never really identified with the stereotypes of the Canadian identity because they seem to be based on white interests. But something changed on Tuesday night.
