That wouldn't work and I dont think the GOP is collectively stupid enough to plot that out. The reason it wouldnt benefit the gop is because its guilt by association; although scott walker and jeb bushes policies are more liberal than the ones you would assume trump is proposing they are closer to trump than clinton/sanders.
Imagine this scenario: what if Obama was running and him and the dnc got together and decided they would run Louis Farrakhan against obama to "make him look better". It makes sense on a basic level. Farrakhan would explain how we need reparations and to send white people back to china or whatever, and then Obama would say no we don't need that we just need diversity in housing and government, an increased minimum wage, and affirmative action.

Even though Obama is disagreeing strongly with farrakhan to a conservative white guy in ohio it might not sound like hes disagreeing enough and he also might be worried about the idea of the dnc partly funding farrakhans campaign etc.

Thats the same effect trump is having on the gop. He's a net negative for them and everyone but trump and the ann coulter crowd knows this. I am a democrat enjoying trumps campaign.
