Yeah, I hear you on that. There are tounaments with GTD prize pools big enough to make me happy, but then they end up with like 900 for first and I just don't care to play for it. They really should be more top heavy than they are, there's no reason I should place in a 20+2 dollar tournament for 3 dollars in profit, and I don't know whose happy about that.
IMO, they should make the payouts more top heavy but I know they won't change that. I think that while WPN and WTD have the right idea about implementing changes to improve the network, they are ignoring some fundemental flaws in their business strategy. WPN is all about maximizing short term rake, and has no incentives geared towards recreational players. The only part of their business model meant to keep recreational players alive is that tournaments payout an average of 20% of players, rather than the standard 12%, and that just makes these MTTs boring.
I really think that if WPN doesn't change it's gears and cater towards recreational players more, it's economy is going to get sucked dry eventually. People here won't admit it, but cash games suck on WPN. And The Beast only incentives the volume grinders (and I think we can all agree that volume grinders are bad for the game, and the poker economy. If I need to post my logic for that, I will, but it seems obvious,) which just makes the games suck even more.
It's only beneficial to WPN for short term rake. Those people are net withdrawers, and WPN caters to them. It just seems like such a waste, they shouldn't be incentivizing anybody to play 12+ tables of .25//50 or higher when there are like 15-20 of those games running total.
WPN has so much potential, but it's like every time they run a promo, they're saying "Hey we made some great changes! Come into the fray, where each time you pay rake, a portion goes straight to MamaCoolJ and Gift of Gab! Don't you want a chance to give them some money?!?!? Isn't that an exciting promo!" It just goes to show how short sighted the management is here, that the first "exciting" change they advertised before getting rid of the extra JP rake, was the idea that getting rid of the BBJ, and adding that money to the Beast would be a good thing.
Literally the opposite of who they SHOULD cater to, they do. I Love WPN for their tournament structure and willingness to (incredibly slowly) change. But they have to stop BSing around. The only huge awesome change they made this year was getting rid of the extra Jackpot rake. Now they SHOULD completely change the Beast so that all the money doesn't just get sucked up into a few players, but they won't do it. Not to mention that people have been requesting that they get rid of the tournament ticket forever, but they don't seem to acknowledge it at all, despite the fact that taking thousands of dollars out of their site and handing it to a live casino can't possibly benefit the games. They just don't seem to care about keeping their poker economy alive.
I have the trust in WPN's financial integrity, but I'm realizing now why WPN is tougher than the other sites. Everything they do is to incentivize tough players and volume grinders to their site. It's a pretty ridiculous business model when you think about it long term, and it's the reason most of my play in Bovada, not here, even though I'd rather be playing on here if they made some changes. They have NO promos at all that incentivize losing players to come back. And why should they, when Bovada is right there and does everything it can to keep them?
