Players who qualify for the cage but don't play in tournament Players who qualify for the cage but don't play in tournament

I sent Winning_TD a PM about this but didn't hear back. I noticed that in the cage tourneys, there are players who qualified for it via the $50+5 beast satty but don't end up playing in the tournament. I was under the impression we had to play if we qualified, so I'm just wondering why it is that some players disappear from the tournament. thanks

This isn't a serious question is it? Why would someone have to play if they didn't want to? It's really simple, if they don't want to play the seat becomes dead money.

those players register for the cage satty in advance so when the software places them in the tourney they are awarded tourney dollars. From there, the player can unregister, in which he is awarded back his intitial buyin. So now the player has same account balance +55 tourney bucks, instead of playing a tournament they are forced into on Sunday evening

you mean register for the cage in advance? i find this incredibly unlikely since virtually no one directly registers for the cage until the day of and during the satty the cage registration list is ~empty. the only way this would be true is if a reasonable chunk of the players about to cash in the satty ran and registered for the cage right before they were about to qualify, which i find very unlikely, but i will keep an eye on it this week

So are you talking about why there are lots of seats that are not being played or are you talking about why you see names on the tourney list and then they disappear?

That's exactly what happens.

hrm, interesting. wouldn't have thought so many people knew to do that. thanks for the heads up

I've won 3 or 4 seats to the Cage, haven't played it once. It's been well known for years that you can register and then unregister if you just want the cash/tourney bucks.

Looks like they are doing something different this week. The BEAST qualifier satty is gone from the lobby so there's no way to pre-register and get the tourney bucks back later in the week. I forgot to pre-register last week and it wouldn't let me unregister. Lame. I put in the volume (fed the BEAST) and got exactly nothing for it as I am generally busy on Sunday afternoon and will likely never play the thing. And even if I do, and somehow win a seat to the $1K CAGE, why would I want to play a tournament that is likely filled with some of the best NLH cash/tourney players on the site? It's simply not worth the time investment.

They should just give us $55 cash or tourney cash so we can choose what tournaments to play. We did generate the rake for this stuff after all.

Not sure if this topic has been discussed before

ok, unless I'm missing something logistically, this pre-regging does not account for everyone who's dropped out of the tourney. this week, I had the cage tourney window open from the time the satty ended to the time the list of the satty winners got transferred to the cage entry list.

the players who pre-regged were ScottishPippen and TW88888. they both de-regged shortly after, though ScottishPippen is back in so he must have changed his mind.

that leaves the following players who 1) qualified via satty, 2) did not pre-reg, and 3) are no longer on the cage list:

CrossRoad33
TranscendencE
ZenZomb13

can someone please tell me where these people went?

I don't believe the lobby windows refresh at a very fast rate so you would have needed to close and open it again multiple times to see everyone that had pre registered and then unregistered. You are kind of beating a dead horse here.

lol i'm obviously not beating a dead horse but thanks for your idea. i'll confirm/deny it next week

Not sure why you have to wait a week to test this out, any satellite tourney would give you the same results. What do you think is actually happening btw?
