Play on ACR while on VPN?

Are you allowed to play on ACR while using a VPN? I travel a fair amount and sometimes end up using open public wifi networks while playing. When doing so, I'd prefer to be able to use a VPN for security. Is this allowed? I couldn't find anything about it in their Terms of Service.

I did this once by accident... used a vpn for Netflix and forgot to close ACR client. Got a email from the security department the next day asking for an explanation. My account status is fine but I'm pretty sure this is against Terms of Service.
