I will be visiting the bank tomorrow to show the evidence of my findings. Basically, there is a part at the top of the check that says: Pay to Blahblahblah bank in US / routing # xxxxxxxxx (9 digits). There is then a section that looks like any normal check that says, "Pay to the order of: My name and address." One would think that their bank would know how this works, but apparently they do not....
Hope this info might help others that may also have such great 'experts in banking' working at the places where they keep their money.
Are you using a small bank? If so, even with that info they will most likely hold the check for X amount of times and charge you X amount of fees for processing a foreign check.
This is what you need to do:
Step 1: Get your check back
Step 2: Go to a big bank and open an account
Step 3: Put some money in the account besides the check/deposit check
Step 4: 24 hours later rub money on the titties
Cha$3, B OF Merica, etc, etc, are your obvious choices. Avoid all local banks/credit unions.
