Guys. Alarming news. Pretty sure I played a hacker at Betcoin very recently and
seems like the exploit is/was network wide.
What happened:
On 29th October I played a guy called ilovebitcoins56 at Betcoin heads-up tables. Never seen him before.
We play a few hands, he starts off really, really aggressive but besides that nothing out of the ordinary. First hand of importance I open BTN, he 3bets, I call 22. flop JJ4dd, he half pots, I call. turn Jx, he bets half pot, I sigh and call. river Qx, he minbets, im like ok lets call that getting 1:100. About to call the minbet when my table freezes and I time out and lose the pot. Im thinking thats annoying but whatever, could be just a random disconnect.
He proceeds to play super aggro wins a few pots. Then a few hands later I get KJo on the button, he 3bets very big, I call. flop Jxx hh he bets huge around pot I think, I call. turn Tx he minbets. Im about to shove as its just a psb on the turn and the same thing happens as Im about to set the slider to all-in position: my table freezes and I timeout and lose the pot.
I keep playing him because he opened to 30bbs preflop once and did random **** like that. Very soon after I get T7o otb, open he calls. flop TT4, he leads small I raise he flats. turn 5x he mindonks and the same exact thing happens again with the same timing. The table freezes and I lose the pot. After I come back he's still there and I'd lost the pot. Almost immediately after Betcoin server disconnects, I get kicked off all the tables and cant connect anymore. Never saw the guy since. The only thing out of the ordinary was that I had Skype open while I played while I normally dont.
Now, if this happened once Id say thats standard. Twice Id say thats pretty strange but still could be just a coincidence. But three times within 20 hands, all in spots where the pot was quite large postflop already and I had a hand that seemed pretty strong. Thats extremely suspicious given that Ive played here a lot and NEVER had this happen before.
I immediately sent Betcoin an e-mail telling what happened. They told me they would investigate and IMMEDIATELY promised to refund my lost money.
I received the refund today and regarding the investigation was told today by a Betcoin represantive that "
The result is that this has been an issue with the WPN software and other companies that should be now corrected in full once our programmers were able to help out with the matter. If something like this should happen again, it shouldn't but if it does, please contact us for immediate review. WE are here anytime." They did not say if the player in question was punished or not.
Betcoin representatives, can you clarify what exactly happened here? You say its a network-wide issue. Were all the skins affected? Is the exploit completely fixed now? If yes, how did it happen exactly? If not, what can we do to protect ourselves from this? Does having Skype on make you vulnerable to being exploited while playing on your network? This is a huge security issue that has not been addressed by Betcoin or WPN at all. The fact that they instantly offered to refund my money makes it look all the more suspicious imo. If it wasnt a known exploit to them why would they offer an immediate refund?
WPN, if this was a network-wide issue as you say how come you never addressed it at all? Was/is every player who played/plays at WPN network vulnerable to this exploit? Need some answers here, Betcoin/WPN.
