The Spin to Get In is frankly idiotic. If you want to add a slot machine, put it in the casino. Slot machines aren't poker! With all the complaints about the software, I just can't believe that this took priority.

I'm sure that's true.

But what that means is that months ago a decision was made to expend focus, time, and resources on this, instead of expending them on stress-testing your infrastructure, or having a comprehensive audit done of your technology, or buying servers, or doing things like showing hole cards at showdowns, implementing hand for hand, balancing the number of players at your tables correctly, creating a lobby that doesn't lead to increased sales of headache remedies, and the other basic, basic things that people have been wanting for months and years.

BTW, I like the feature.

But it's like an audio system in a jalopy. Yeah, the bass sounds great. Oh, you're adding Bluetooth?

You guys are not so good at driving down the road a few miles without needing a mechanic. The defroster doesn't work, and the rear passenger window is a sheet of plastic.

Maybe next time work on those things? Like grown-ups would? And by work on those things, I mean expending time and resources on them, in projects that have milestones and deadlines, and internal or external staff attached to them. You've been "working" on some of these fairly basic things for years, which tells me that you think adding them to a to-do list is "working" on them.

Still my favorite place to place to play. I get the impression your hearts are in the right place. That's a good start towards providing a quality product. It's not nothing. But, you know, it's just a good start.

Td stop with the site was running fine before the seventh

That is a bold face lie that just proves what we all have been saying.. You peeps are in lala land

Who cares if it was scheduled
It's all hands on deck for the crash
Obvious desperation to fill million event

The site crashed on cyber Monday and has been laggy well forever

Are you people just that moronic

Havent been impressed with lags and freeze ups, seriously thinking about depositing over at carbon poker with the merge network.
I bet they don't cancel tournaments that's apart of a series that they advertised for over a month. Pretty poor management at WPN. When is the next CEO stream? I got a few things Id like to say to him about this.

GL at carbon. Definately not a better option

I've spent 20 years in IT, including 15 years consulting for companies like T. Rowe Price, Carefirst, Nationsbank (before it was Bank of America) and the like... so I get the decisions.

They're WRONG - but I get them.

In any reasonably large IT group dealing with customer apps, feature development takes weeks or even months, and is done by different people than those who administer the servers.

There are (hopefully) database server admins, web server admins, networking technicians, programmers, testers, and assorted support staff.

When you schedule a release, you're scheduling something that coordinates with a lot of people. You ask people to work at odd hours outside the norm (determined by minimum server loads) and put in extra hours before (on prep work) and after (on shake down) the release.

You do not simply reschedule a new release like that on a whim.

Further, it is very rare that every group is 100% occupied by the release all the time. Most of the time its hurry up and wait. Programmers hurry up and write the code then wait for testing and performance results. Testers wait for the code, then hurry up and test it. Admins wait and wait and wait then have to hurry up to deploy any changes required by them.

That said - here's two things you don't do when you run a 24/7 service based site:
1) You don't schedule major system updates in the middle of a major event. Like, say, if you're a poker site and you're running a major tournament series that lasts 2 weeks...

Why? You're introducing risk. No amount of testing can ever be 100% certain to catch everything. Users will catch that one obscure issue that nobody else managed to find during weeks of testing - and they'll do it in 24 hours. During a major event where you've got a draw of extra users, scheduling a major release (both planned ahead of time) is stupid.

2) When you have a major system issue discovered a few days before release - one you've acknowledged is on your end - and it's affected your production run for two days - YOU DON'T CHANGE EVERYTHING ON THE BACK END.

If you're doing proper code management, you
1) Reschedule the major release for future date to be determined
2) Branch your current production code copy out, fix the flaw, sanity check it and emergency deploy it to production
3) Verify the fix or rinse/repeat #2 until you've got the issue isolated
4) Apply the fix to your trunk code (that is the code with the new features in it that were almost ready for release)
5) Schedule new release date that allows for re-testing the entire system with the new fix included.

You're having a major system problem. You are now changing everything. You are, therefore, introducing a slew of NEW variables into an existing problem, making troubleshooting the problem that much harder.

TL/DR
In short - the decision to move forward with a new update in the middle of a special tournament series AND a major production flaw is... well... lets say poorly thought out. Because the correct adjectives here would be very impolite indeed.

Since I live 5 miles from Canada my best option would be to move over the border and play on Stars.

A lot of people in this thread would benefit substantially from the use of cannibas.

I think we have been working that angle since this all began, thank you.

Well, my client is now not working, in a different way from before. Crossing fingers this is a good sign.

Whenever they say 8am it's never up at that time.

Instead of all these network is lagging or down threads maybe we just need a thread called "Network is up and running fine atm" thread.
12-09-2014 , 09:47 AM
Oh man PokerStars was really amazing. never knew how amazing till it was gone
12-09-2014 , 09:51 AM
8am in what time zone again?

Some of you really need to take this time to enjoy the outside world. Take a walk, go for a drive, go get the newspaper. Any of these are a better option than trying to start the software every 90 seconds and then posting to complain about it not working

Evil Greebo looks at WPN, sees Fortune 500 company. Because . . . he's worked for Fortune 500 companies, and also . . . nope, zero other reasons.

But his points about scheduling updates during major tournament series, and proceeding with updates to features despite infrastructure issues, are spot on.

Also, if you tell me the pizza will be here in 40 minutes and it arrives in 35 minutes, you're early and I'm happy. If you tell me it will be here in 30 minutes and it arrives in 35 minutes, you're late and I'm cranky.

But without fail, whenever a WPN rep advises the site will be back up by a certain time, it isn't. Learn to under-promise and over-deliver.

But, what should I expect from a group of people who complained on the 7th that they didnt cancel the tourneys right away when they experienced problems, and then a lot of those same exact people complained on the very next day when they cancelled them right away when it happened again

Something tells me, you were coming here to do just that.

We understand patience; However, we also get the meaning of 8:00am EST!

WPN_REP your name is highlighted that your are online. Can you give insight into when client will be up and running again instead of everyone just waiting?
