Does anyone know how the quarterfinals matchups are set up? I know the group winners will play a group runner up but do they decide ahead of time that say the Group A winner will play the Group B runner up, or is there a draw after the group stage? Trying to figure out if there's any way to have an idea who is going to play on Sunday during quarters. Obv a lot can happen in the group stage but if I know for example the group B winner is playing that day then I'll have a pretty good idea that SKT will be playing.

Edit: nm, reddit tells me it's a random draw after groups

Not a fan of the format, I like the format from The International much better.

I think ROX wins this year.

Early game is so important, where top lane was the star of the team last go-round, Jungle is gonna be the MVP this year. In standard lanes where you can snowball off an early gank + tower take, I trust Peanut over anybody else in this field. Unfortunate for SKT that their one weakness is going to be the most important position this year.

Well that is kind of their fault they knew jungle was a weak point since s4 and didn't solve the problem.

if people actually watched the LCK, they'll know that peanut was shaky at times. his movements, ganks, map pressure at times weren't as consistent as they should have been. similar to Trick, were, Peanut and Trick are both really good game changing impactful junglers, but both were erratic at times.

Thats why Clearlove is easily the best at worlds, hes been the most consistent jungler through the past 4-5 months, his aggression, ganks, map movements have been impeccable.

I agree ROX is the best team at worlds and is my pick to win it all, but I don't understand why people are acting like peanut is some god. both KR hunlers last year were playing at a more consistent higher level than he is. maybe when they compare him to amibtion, its easy to say how great peanut is

still upset we get 2 **** "international" wildcard teams. they literrally bring nothing to the table. I get pissed when on eof them gets in but the 4th place from KR doesnt, where the 4th team from LPL, would have gotten out of group stage

it's an investment in 2020 brazil team getting out of groups ;-)

I think it should actually be like 8 wildcard teams. They are huge market segment that also have a lot more potential for growth than Na, EU and Korea. Something like 4 from each major region and 8 from other regions.

I think three teams from major regions is too many and four would be absurd. KT Rolster might be a top 5 team and you could end up with an all Korean semifinals which is bad for interest. Rather than having 8 teams come to worlds and only play 3 opponents twice, I think two groups would be better where you at least get to play every major region. C9 going to Worlds and not getting to play a European team or CLG going to Worlds and not getting to play China is silly. There's no need to watch INTZ vs EDG twice, just have everyone play everyone once to start and advance the top four from each group.

LCK
LPL
NA
EU
LMS
Russia/Turkey
Latin America North/South
Brazil/Australia
Southeast Asia/Japan

Now wild card regions are guaranteed six wins, and barring a strong wild card team, only two major region teams are eliminated in the best of one stage whereas six are eliminated in the current format. (Instead those four three seeds are eliminated back in their home region in some sort of best of five.)

2 large groups would certainly be much better. Viewers want to see their favorite teams to play against as many opponents as possible. "Best of 2" doesn't really serve any purpose.

Ehh that way every region gets to cheer for their teams and watching underdogs do well is oftentimes quite fun. Iceland doing well at Euros was really fun to watch. The icelandic commentator going nuts is gonna be remembered for a long time. And as for worlds, remember Kaboom? And Pain did quite well last year.

SKT too weak in the jungle right now to take the tournament. if bengi can find form its a different story. otherwise, ROX is a clear favorite. LPL teams being the darkhorse.

my pref group stage design would be 2 x groups playing single round robin. bo3 matches. top 2 teams from each group going to bo5 semi-finals.

am i the only one that wonders it a bo7 final could work? its really no different to an LCK regular season double header of 2 x bo3.

NA region moving to bo3 this season will help more than most people would consider imo.

Bo7 takes too long for everyone involved.

but like i said. LCK regularly has 6 games in one night at one venue with the same casters. pro teams usually scrim ~10 games in a session, so no issue there. is 7 really that different?

just found a book paying $4 for winner EDG (chinese shortest), and $4.33 for winning region China.

China is pretty garbage outside of EDG and not sure EDG is all that good either.

I'd take (and did take) Samsung Galaxy over China. I think SG got like 5.5x to make it to finals which I thought were great odds. Seems they have 8.5 now.

It is more about the players, 10+ hours of playing is too much.

Really think Samsung is great value at 8.5-1. They weren't that far behind SKT and ROX all summer, and Korea is still the GOAT region until proven otherwise.

I think the biggest question mark for me is what is the jungle meta going to look like for this tournament.

I think the Rek'sai and Gragas nerfs along with the Lee Sin buffs, there could be a heavy focus on pick junglers and pick comps. I'm assuming Lee Sin and Elise will be popular picks, but I'm not sure who the next level of picks will be. How popular will Gragas and Rek'sai still be after the nerfs? Do people have any options for carry junglers like Kindred or Nidalee, is Graves going to be played at all?

The more that pick junglers are OP probably favors SKT. If carry junglers come back into the meta then that favors Peanut and Ambition.

Zac, Graves, Nidalee, Elise, Lee will be the junglers imo

How big was the nerf on gragas/reksai? Their utility is so huge..

They say Gragas super sucks now, I've barely been seeing him in solo queue.

Reksai will always be viable even if she was heavily nerfed. her kit is just too strong. its just like thresh could never really ever not be playable due to his kit.
