Re: Diablo 3

Ok I lied, someone put together a nice summary from reddit:

Quote:
I'm making this list here for a few reasons... Reddit makes people's sites crash and I'm hoping you guys read this instead of giving incgamers more traffic since they leaked the information out early (which is a pretty ****ty thing to do for those of us who play by the rules - very unprofessional IMO).

Anyway, here's the main details I took from the event:

We weren't given a beta start date. Beta does look to be coming soon though - I'd expect an announcement at the investor conference call on August 3 by Mike Morhaim. My guess is sometime this month.

The game doesn't look overly "ready" at this point. I will be surprised if they hit a 2011 release date.

The game is online only. No offline characters (I'm expecting this to be rather controversial in the community)

2 different kinds of auction houses will be in the game.

1 auction house is virtual money for items. So you'll be able to trade for items with in game currency.

The other auction house is to use real currency. This is player to player transaction (NOT Blizzard selling items - they made this very clear at the event). There is an unknown to us at this time 3rd party that Blizzard will be working with. They will be taking a cut in the sales. Blizzard is doing this because they realized the market was there in Diablo and Diablo 2 and the scamming that went with it. In this way they can control it (and what they didn't tell us but is obvious, capitalize on it).

Beta will have all 5 classes and will be able to play through the campaign through King Leoric. Basically the same thing we mostly saw at events like Blizzcon.

There will be a shared stash between your characters on your account.

There will be a hardcore mode. Same as Diablo 2. You will not be able to use the real currency auction house in hardcore mode.

They have completely trashed the talent tree system and have replaced it with runes.
It doesn't appear there will be a console release of the game when it goes live. Mac and PC will come out at the same time (duh). Not to say they won't release on a console in the future but it won't be with the initial release.

There's more information I'll be adding soon (running out of time and need to make sure our articles publish at 12:01) - so I'll be adding more here. Feel free to add some more in this threads comments on some of the big stuff I may have missed... but so far the ones I mentioned were the biggest that were up for discussion at the event on Wednesday.

If anyone wants - we host/own http://blizzplanet.com - we make literally nothing off the website (in fact we lose hundreds every year to pay for hosting, airline tickets and hotel rooms for events, etc.). It's a labor of love to us and we've been doing this for 10 years now. There's more info posted there with more in depth FAQs, screen shots, videos, etc.

EDIT: Here's our link with all the FAQs and the B-roll video: http://www.blizzplanet.com/blog/comm...event-coverage

EDIT 2: added info about trashing the talent tree system.
From reading the IGN stuff there will be a console version of the game eventually.

Re: Diablo 3

Game seems so carebear. Unique loot for only your character, shared stash. I guess things had to change though with the ability to ninja-loot a real money item.

I'm also wondering what "3rd-party" they are going to use to get your money off their system since they stated "they dont wan't to be a bank". I can see some awesome forms of d3 gambling coming into fruition.

This real money thing just seems like a bomb that's going to explode, but it's not clear whether it will be full of confetti or napalm.

Re: Diablo 3

From Blizzard in 2007: The game's Terms of Use clearly states that all World of Warcraft content is the property of Blizzard Entertainment, and Blizzard does not allow 'in-game' items to be sold for real money. Not only do we believe that doing so would be illegal, but it also has the potential to damage the game economy and overall experience for the many thousands of others who play World of Warcraft for fun ... While we can understand the temptation to purchase items for real money, we feel that players can find ample equipment and money for their characters within the game through their own adventuring and questing.

Lololololol. I mean...I don't hold any hard feelings for Blizzard and something that was 4+ years ago can not be held against them(that much). I just love reading this stuff.

Meh...

Re: Diablo 3

Blizz just knows that people are doing it anyway and want a cut.

But it's always been unofficial and against the ToS which kept the volume down I'm sure.

My fear is that this destroys in game trading. If it's impossible to get a good item via normal trading it will ruin the game IMO.

It's gonna become like a mini-stock market basically.

Re: Diablo 3

Auctions houses using in-game currency were already a game within a game. Now with this change I am very interested in seeing how its monetized. People might still not like the percentages Blizzard takes off their sales and D2jsp may not die. Time will tell.

Re: Diablo 3

There's so much outrage on other websites about the 1) constant internet 2) no mod support and 3) RM auction house

None of these things bother me in the slightest. In fact regulating a RM auction house is probably one of the best ideas I've seen in a long time, people gonna RMT no matter what, and regulating stuff makes it waaaay less sketchy (re: drugs/prostitution). Shrug.

Re: Diablo 3

apparently they removed skill points.

At first it seems like armageddon.

But when you think about it, they let you choose about 6-7 skills out of your class's 24 so there's still decent space for customizing.

Also, one thing I like about htat is you used to max like 3-4skills in D3 while only using like 1-2 of them.

Now you have 7 skills that scale and you can use throughout and be useful.

I still trust them.

Re: Diablo 3

The max people you can have in the game at a time is 4? That's stupid, why bring it down from 8?

The more people that join the more fun it is for doing loot runs, or the more EXP you get when you are strong enough to solo.

Re: Diablo 3

I guess hc won't have real money ah. So there's that. I wasn't planning on playing sc ever anyway.

I don't really see how this doesn't kill or massively hurt jsp though. I mean the casual gamer is going to have no clue what it is and no motive to look for anything like it if he can just trade super easy in game.

He doesn't have to give money to a shady site and worry about getting scammed or getting a virus either.

Re: Diablo 3

The more I think about it, the more I think this is really awesome.

Gold farmers will not only have to undercut the casual seller, but they will have to be reasonably certain their item will sell or risk losing the listing fee. And the listing fee would likely only effect those mass sellers. Just awesome.

I can't understand the hate on other forums/sites. This is a plus for everyone. People who were buying stuff still will buy stuff, but cheaper and safer. Blizzard takes a small cut. Everyone can buy and sell items more easily whether it be gold or money. Win win win.
