So what would you rank the chars FX? In D2 I 99'd a barb then 99'd a sorc, and the sorc was infinitely more bad ass and fun. Prob bc at that time sorc's were wayyy overpowered (lol 12k fw dmg) but the combo of static/teleport/fw/etc. were just so fun. Also barb was my first class so of course I messed up the build a bit, but I'm thinking of doing the same thing in D3 rolling a Barb then a Wiz, and hoping not to mess up the barb too much.

am i the only one just a little bit perturbed by blizzard recycling classes? barb? necroman...i mean witch doctor. the wizard gets a free pass because hey, every rpg needs a glass cannon caster class

I don't have any other Diablo experience other than this beta, so take it for what it's worth.

Also, my opinions of the characters are just my opinion. I've always played casters in Warcraft so I always find myself enjoy more head bashing melee when I start doing it. And like I said a few posts ago, my imagination of Diablo is going around stomping everything so I find the Barbarian a lot more fun.

So right now I would rank them:

Barbarian
Demon Hunter
Wizard
Monk
Witch Doctor

There is just something about the Witch Doctor that I don't like, but I don't have a ton of time played on one. I think it's mainly the fact that it is a caster and reminds me too much of a Mage in Warcraft.

I'll be playing a Barbarian on Day 1 and then maybe start to filter in the Demon Hunter every now and then just to mix it up.

But at the same time, loot is random so you're going to be finding loot that is good for other classes so I'm sure I'll have 1 of each just to start gearing them up.

Just logged into the beta and there is a message that says they are in the process of inviting 275,000 additional beta testers as a stress test.

Unfortunately I didn't get one

Is there any groups so far for D3? Gonna get it on release and am interested in an active group

witch doctor and monk youre already lucky they havent been done too much

There are so many good ideas that are unique, just about everything has been tried.

Archetypes boil down to Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Mage. Action RPG's typically don't lend themselves well to a healing class, such that Clerics are out the window.
We see that the remaining three are those classes found in Diablo 1.

Diablo 2 had a Fighter (Barbarian), a Fighter/Cleric (Paladin), a Rogue (Amazon), and two renditions of the Mage (Sorceress + Necromancer).

Diablo 3 but it seems to follow this model for the most part. A pure Fighter (Barbarian), Rogue (Demon Hunter) and Mage (Wizard) are essentially a must (in the same vein that "every RPG needs a glass cannon caster), such that there are only 2 classes left for experimentation if we assume 5 total. Furthermore, given 5 classes, we expect 2 melee (add Monk) and 2 casters (add Witch Doctor), because it seems balanced. There just isn't a whole lot of room for innovation. I believe Blizzard has said that the Witch Doctor won't play exactly like the Necromancer but what exactly is a second caster supposed to do, once the ranged DPS model is already taken? Summoning and status afflictions is about all that's left...

im quite happy with the character lineup. first i was kind of turned off by the looks and feel of the monk but once i played a bit with him i realized that he is a super fun martial arts type of guy. Just a shame he is a monk and not a super black ninja, but that wouldnt fit into diablo anyways.

we are definately gonna see several expansions with more character classes and blizz def has already a rough plan for those. i was thinking that some kind of desert nomad type of guy would be cool.
