Re: Diablo 3

Wow what a universally dismal color palette. I watched that and the HD gameplay vid and both were almost entirely rendered in yellow and caramel. Even the hero and his enemies, so much so that it was often hard to tell one thing from another. If it's going to look anything like this, it's going to be an unusually ugly game. Right now it's got the color palette of the first quake games, if that, on those vids.

Re: Diablo 3

Could someone explain the premise behind this game? For example, WoW you play a race, quest, level up, dungeons, raids, work for armor and weapons, etc. SC2 as more of an online RTS you are building an economy, countering your opponent, going to war. What do you do with Diablo?

I remember back when I was in high school, 10+ years ago, a guy I know would always talk about playing Diablo. I saw the gameplay a couple times, but never really understood the thrill. I'm interested in Diablo 3, though, since it has evolved into what it is going to become. I'm a big graphics guy so the improved graphics of Diablo 3 and SC2 is very appealing. Even games like God of War 3 is just amazing.

I'm interested in Diablo 3. I don't plan on playing 1 or 2, but hopefully I may be able to get into the D3 beta like I did with SC2 after never playing SC1 or BW.

The basic premise of the game (Diablo II that is) is to go around in a party of 1 to 8. Kill monsters. Level up and get better spells or abilities. Like in Diablo II you could be a Sorceress that specialized in either Ice, Fire or Lightning spells so leveling up would give you more powerful or different spells. For a Barbarian you would get different attacks that made you do more damage or whatever. You basically go through dungeons killing bosses and doing side quests along the way. As you go through you collect better gear and more powerful weapons. After you finish the game it basically turns into a PvP match where you duel with other people. Apparently the big new thing in Diablo III is going to be crafting. Im going to watch the new video right explaining it now in fact.

I've played WoW and I think Diablo II is leaps and bounds better. I actually think that Diablo II is the best video game ever made. It was just amazing for it's time and I don't think it has been topped since. I'm not sure if Diablo III is going to have an open beta. Like in Starcraft II you needed a beta to work out race imbalances which could render the game unplayable, but an RPG isn't as affected by that.

Thanks. Sounds like a different perspective of WoW? It looks pretty cool. I'm considering trying it out, but I'm not sure. WoW took a lot of research to figure out exactly what I needed. I spent so much time researching armor and how to get the right stats that I basically spent just as much time researching as I did playing the game, and then even more time sitting in the game jumping around in circles because I didn't know what to do next. ha

I was assuming there would be a D3 beta because the BNET allows you to opt into the D3 beta....???

Basically WoW was a lot more about team work. It seemed like when I played it you needed a group or things went really slowly. You couldn't really attack a bunch of monsters at once by yourself. A ton of time is spent in town at the auction house or crafting or whatever.

Diablo II is much more fast paced. You just rip though groups of monsters. Way less time in spent in town. Plus the greatest thing about Diablo was the random stats. There were items in Diablo that were truley unique. Very few people in the world had items with those stats, and even if they did it wasn't the exact same stats, the item wasn't called the same name and it didn't look the same. That's what made it so great. To push a little extra 10% more out of your character you had to spend like 100x more, which made a huge difference in PvP. Not like in WoW where you raid and a boss drops the same exact item if you get the drop. In Diablo the drop could have a range where the item got lets say between 150 and 200% increased defense and like between 10 and 20 to resist all. So if you got a 200% ED and a 20res item it would be worth so so much, but the 150%ED 10res one would be garbage. Not to mention that a very low percentage of items would drop ethreal, which could make your drops worth even more. One item could have easily over 1000 different combinations of stats which made magic finding almost like playing the lottery.

That's true. I forgot that Blizz gave you the chance to opt into a beta. Sweet sweet.

If you enjoy brainless monster bashing with lots of gore and explosions, this is your game.

If you think brainless monster bashing with lots of gore and explosions would get old after a couple weeks, this is not your game.

Honestly after playing the game for 15 minutes at Blizzcon, I was bored. (Yes it was a very early version blah blah blah etc etc)
