Uni's sketch book.

So yeah, I figured I should get back into this.
In any case, since we last our hero, he nearly died on the freeway.
And now back onto the story.

So I drew this.
Spoiler:

It took a look for time to figure out how to get the way to look swallow and warm. I went through a dozen or some tutorial and variations. I'm still not completely satisfied with it, but more so, the thing that bother's me with this image, I realize weeks after finishing it, was the foreground.

So I'm currently shrinking and adding to this picture.

On the poker side of things: I drew Chase.

And then I drew Tommy. Next to chase.

I think tommy's eyes need some work, and I'm still not sure what to do with Rose. In any case, it's my current project to do a little wallpaper.
Well, one of them. redoing the first pic, and finishing this one are the other two.
Spoiler:
Amazingly, I'm not out of character for this character, if anybody happens to know jolly jack is.
I'm playing around with clothing at the moment, currently settled on her standard loose big-T.

Despite that, I did finish something.

Yeah, I like the show, big whoop, wanna fight about it?

Nice work.

Can I ask how you painted the fronds on the palm trees in the first pic? They look as if each one was done with one stroke but they've got color change that looks super hard to do in one stroke. Did you use a custom brush or did you do a lot of adjustments after laying down the initial strokes?

Re: Uni's sketch book.

Oh, and totally random question. Your sketches are really great, what made you decide to do them in orange? I prefer blue. There seems to be a totally random divide within the industry of who uses orange or blue, most of the sketches in Pixar artbooks is blue for example, but there's some orange in there, and more in the sony artbooks, I just wondered what made someone decide to use one over the other.

It was just setting down a initial layer with dark tones at full opacity, stem and leaves the same color with an angled wet brush.
Once that was done, I set a second layer, and began lighter tones with the same brush with I think 60% opacity / 100% flow with the adjuster for pen pressure on for the first layer, then 45% opacity for the other toes.
Actually, the last tone is white, but set on a low opacity level.

I decided to flatten the pine tree rather then group it together to make the size adjustments.

The rest of the image is layer, though.

it's actually red with a sketch brush setting, so pen is actually on multiply.

I also use a huge Copic tones set:

Re: Uni's sketch book.

Nice. So far I've resisted the urge to splash out on a set of copics. I reallllyyyy like their brush nibs though. I have a set of greys but for color I'm slumming it with my letraset promarkers for now.

Oh oh oh, another question! What sort of tablet do you use? Do you have a wacom?

I have a Trust (lol) but it's actually a good trust with a suspiciously similar design/spec to the intuous4 at less than half the price. I've had it for, I think, 20 months and it's worked flawlessly.

It's mostly practice getting use to have your pen elsewhere from where you're looking.

Re: Uni's sketch book.

Yeah I want a wacom monitor tablet so that you get rid of that problem but ldo they're really expensive.

The wacom bamboo is good for what it is but I don't think it has tilt sensitivity? So you can't quite get the same amount of control/freedom as with an intuos or imitation intuos.

It's been a bitch to work on stuff, since my internet at the house is frequently disconnecting me.

Anyways, Rin's not an anime character, she's the avatar for a voice synthesizer program that's gained international popularity.
The most famous of these programs is Miku Hatsune.
