Here ya go moo. My attempt at a fast song. It's 170 bpm, so it isn't terribly fast, but it's the fastest I've done.

One Step Ahead of Mr. Law Man

@ kantu- I liked that quite a bit. Nice guitar work. It would be a good framework for a good song. I even think it might work like it is if you added a little bit more variety and/or shortened it.

hey lounge that reminds me of judas priest. production sounds a lot like your last one which is fine. after hearing a lot of the songs in the same style you get used to it. i guess that's why people used to make albums.

Quite a nice song, I enjoyed it. Really cool tone on the lead, even though that part was pretty short.

While not an original, I somehow wrote Haddaway's "What is Love?" techno song for guitar and wanted to post it somewhere

I had finished this one right before I started getting feedback from the contest. I bought an M-Audio Fast Track Pro and a Shure SM57. I got it all set up and ready to go. You should hear some improvement in the future. I guess I'll re-record all my stuff and see what I can come up with.

@ kantu: Good stuff. I can hear the Iron Man influence.

@ fanapathy: That video was mesmerizing, watching the notes go by. I vaguely remember the original. Your version was very good.

Sob Story sounds like a real Beatles type song. Those are rare and garner a lot of respect. But you sound like a robot. The artists using vocal editing software trick people into thinking that's how their voice actually sounds. Most people don't want to listen to a machine. They want to listen to a real voice. A fake voice that sounds like a real voice works for most people. The lyrics are a bit emo though man. It's hard to mainstream that. But the concept of wanting to slit your wrist but not make a permanent tattoo of it is quite interesting.

Pretty cool. Love the original and is always interesting to hear guitar versions of other types of music. Have you any plans to record it?

Symbolic I listened to both of those. I hear a lot of that pirate metal nowadays, I know someone who loves that stuff, I'll send it to him.

The second one also sounds good but the voice is a huge contrast to everything else.

Thanks, yeah there are a few pirate bands around now, Alestorm are pretty awesome imo.

Hi, I'm gobbledygeek!

I wasted lots of work time on here in the small stakes limit forum and then moved to the dark side of the game, so now you can find me dispensing horrible weak-passive advice in the small stakes NL forum. I play poker exactly once a week and enjoy the hobby.

Other than playing hockey (goalie on a couple bottom division 3-on-3 hockey league teams) and puttering around the house on the weekend, my other hobby that I've been into for the last decade or so is making some really bad home recorded music. I've recorded 70+ songs just for the enjoyment of doing it (the main reason for doing anything, imo). For some reason, I recently decided to start posting some of the songs on YouTube, so I created the gobbledygeek31 channel and have started uploading some of my stuff.

As I say... not quite sure why I'm doing this (I'm guessing ego or impending death in 50 years?). I've never shared the songs with anyone in my real life, and I just do it to pass the time. Anyhoo, I've uploaded the "best of" so far (seriously, this is my best stuff, it gets even worse pretty quickly). I'm guessing a lot of it is fairly high on the cringe-worthy scale, but I'm too close to the songs to know better. I do know I cried the first time I heard my recorded voice, but now I'm just used to it; it is what it is.

I don't know how to paste a YouTube link, just search for "gobbledygeek" or "gobbledygeek31".

I've checked out a couple of songs here already, and I might have to look at checking out some of the sites you guys are posting your songs on. I love wasting time at work on 2+2, usually I'm in the small stakes NL forum, but maybe I'll try spending some time down here.

That was some good stuff Geek. I was just going to listen to one real quick, but I ended up listening to 3 or 4. It probably isn't the sound you're going for, but it reminded me of an up to date Johnny Horton.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for listening!

Never heard of Johnny Horton, I'll have to check him out...

ETA: Ha! Just looked him up, I do remember hearing a couple of his songs before (Battle of New Orleans and Ballad of Davey Crockett I've heard, can't imagine where from though). Definitely not the sound I intended or where I'm coming from, but interesting take, and lately I do find myself going down a more hillbilly road.

I went through a short phase of songwriting about 3 years ago and ended up with 20 songs or so of varying lyrical/melodic quality. All of them are recorded using audacity, and none of are recorded beyond "rough draft" quality. I always thought I would revisit them and tighten them up, but never got around to it.

I'll post some more as I upload them if anyone is interested. Here are a couple:

Hey guys

Here's a rough version of a song I'm working on with my band. We mostly play metal although this songs not really that heavy. I'm just playing over a crappy drum/click track in this video but Ill post it again when we record the full song.

Sounds good. I like the riff you go to from 2:44-the end. The change in pace is nice.

Thanks for taking a listen. I agree about ending, this was our first song and most of what we're writing now is a bit more dynamic. Im excited to record them all with drums/vocals/bass soon, hopefully will sound good. Last night my friend who went to luthier school did a setup on my guitar so I was inspired to record something and post it up here.

I listened to both your songs Acemanhattan and I think the singing sounds good, the guitar was good but I thought could have been a bit louder. Were you singing and playing at the same time or recording on separate tracks?

Thanks for the listen. I was playing guitar and singing at the same time. They def both could be louder and polished up, like i said, was just a rough capture of them. Def not finished products by any means.

Since it's I week til Halloween Ill post this video/song I made last year. Is basically a bunch of horror movie clips along with a song I wrote using Reason4. Just made it for fun messing around on my midi keyboard. Because of the movie clips its probably nsfw and some people might them slightly disturbing.
