Hey Guys,
Part of the reason I always liked the idea of this forum is that at one point in time I did attempt to play a guitar.
Well recently I started to pick up again and was wondering if you had some good sites for
Lyrics - there are like 5 billion websites out there and 99% are full of spyware or other forms of BS , whats a good one (even if I had to pay for it) that won't try and ass rape my PC. This seems to be a difficult challenge!

Sheet Music - Even just cords or rifts , I don't need the full sheets but like if I was going to play say Purple Rain it would be like G>Em>D>C etc etc.

I "found" songsterr out there but anything like that would be good too.

Anyway any and all advice helpful!

I use Ultimate Guitar for chords and tabs. You can subscribe and get their "Pro" tabs but the free ones are great and there's a bazillion of them. They have an iPod/iPad tab app as well. It's a good website in general. Lots of good info in the forums.

Also beware that a lot of tabs are really bad. (And when I say bad, I mean totally wrong)

So obviously listening to the song you are learning, in conjuction with the tab would be best.

Sheet music should be accurate, though I have some guitar books that for copyright purposes change the key of the songs and list it as "in the style of" such and such band. Probably not a big deal unless you want to sing along or play along with the original track.

I have used a site called "cosmic-kitchen dot com" in the past as it has one version of each song, together with the lyrics and is great for a strum along.

They haven't got as many tabs as Ultimate Guitar Tabs and the likes, but there are less dodgy ones to troll through.

The site "Chordie" is pretty good for basic stuff too and also has some more in depth tabs. A lot of tabs are getting removed/taken down because of action against the website owners by the copyright owners though.

Also did you just type "cords & rifts" to generate come sort of spelling nits furor?

If you want actual sheet music you can search these sites:

http://www.halleonard.com/

http://www.alfred.com/

You can search these sites and get the actual codes for the books or just songs.

These are the two most common publishers so most stores and online places deal with them.

I learnt to play guitar by tabs alone. After about a year and a half I stopped using them completely and had enough skill to make up my own songs. My songs would always have some parts in it that were too hard for me to play so I would keep practicing them and that enabled me to keep improving. I think I used Ultimate guitar for tabs too.
