Well, you win!!!!!

I get a boner almost every time I see an API or a Neve. Awesome, awesome stuff.

yea must say its sweet having top shelf pres / eqs on every channel even though i think a more modular approach with a 48 channel board makes a lot more sense these days (especially if you want to take a digital mix someone else gives you and spread it out on the board to mix). that said if you want to spread it out on the board having the eq on every channel is efficient again... just need a second one i guess!

I've got 2 Pultecs, and they're phenomenal. But API are still my favorite for drums and guitars.

If I could start over (which I may do some day) it will be with tons of lunchboxes and the consoles you can make from lunchboxes. The options these days are incredible.

api actually lets you build a 1608 console using only rack gear, every part of the board is available individually. i notice some schools do this.

lunchboxs are annoying imo. expensive for the actual lunchbox for what it is, etc. the 1608 has slots for stuff which is nice and will hold its value as opposed to the empty lunchbox approach. i think in the future it will all be empty boards at a reasonable price point (like Tree Audio does except affordable), but at this point the modular 500 series based systems are kind of overpriced imo, and also hard to resell (not that difficult to find a buyer for a top shelf board).

i really gotta get some more mics now....

Microphones have been the thing I've always lacked. I have access to some insanely good ones, but I want a filled mic locker

yea i just recorded an LP at Electrical Audio in Chicago (interned there for a while). ridiculous how sexy the mic lockers there are:

http://www.electricalaudio.com/class...ge=microphones

Relatively little outboard EQ cos i guess the idea is that if you've got the mics and the ears there's really no need most the time, except sometimes when a little surgery is needed in which case the board is good (as opposed to brightening up a darkish mic or something where it seems people want the character of the EQ to enhance the sound). Still have a pultec tho.

Going to bump an old thread with the hope of sparking some guitar stuff conversation.

Anyone geek out on anything in particular from NAMM? I thought maybe the coolest thing was the Viktorian Steampunk guitar, not that I would actually consider getting one. But the fact that we can 3d print instruments nowadays kind of blows my mind.

In terms of stuff I'll probably actually get, I dug the demos I heard of the new MXR Univibe and the Amptweaker Big Rock Pro.

The only thing premiered at NAMM that's threatening my wallet is the Bob Balch(Fu Manchu lead) signature Reverend guitar with Railhammer pickups and bass contour knob. It will probably cost $949, for a Korean guitar with hardcase.

Well, I just did a major upgrade on my studio. Got rid of the old Pro Tools Mix/24 setup and replaced it with an Apollo 16 and a new mac.

Pretty sweet that I was able to get rid of 10+ spaces of gear for a unit that has tons more power and only 1 rack space

TC Electronics Ditto X2 looks nice. I'll pick that up in a few weeks.

All of the cogs in the body actually turn too, it's pretty absurd.

I thought about that too but I've always felt like I'd use a looper heavily for a short period of time and then ditch it. I'm personally more drawn to the EHX Freeze but haven't picked one up for the same reason.

Pretty sure I'm going to ditch my Big Muff soon, been looking for replacements that have less ambient noise while playing and hopefully true bypass. Leaning towards a Suhr Rufus I think, still have about a billion more options to look through though.

Check out the stuff from JHS pedals. They have some nice units. I am going to pick up a morning glory as soon as I sell my Damage Control pedal.

If you're looking for a boutique overdrive, I use a Skreddy Skrewdriver Mini Deluxe and would highly recommend it. Incredibly versatile and not a clone of anything else.

Got a Suhr Pro M7 HSH this week, and I may never touch any of my other electrics again.

Plays like a dream, sort of similar to the John Petrucci MM as a point of comparison to a more common model.

damn alexeimartov you got some awesome gear

any reason you chose getting a stereo pair of 76s over the distressors?

is it a brit mod btw?

I'd choose the 76's over the distressors pretty much every time. Not just cause I don't have a distressor, but because the times I've done side-by-side comparisons, the 1176's won. I would love to have one though.

i've only had limited experience w/ actual 1176's - i would sell a kidney for a blue stripe as it is my go to for a lot of things, kinda felt it was more "musical" than the black. that said i still use the black 76 (emulation of course) a LOT.

I do like the black 1176 for fast transient stuff hands down.

From the time i got to spend w/ distressor i liked it for its versatility - and would want one for my home studio. if money wasnt an issue, well - then that would open up the door for pretty much all of the above

My 2 Purple 1176's are why I didn't get a distressor. Vintage King will ship you a ton of stuff to test out, and the Purple's won without a doubt.

No. It's just one of my goals in life. That's one of the cheaper models that's only $20,000. I also hope to have sex with Emma Watson. Basically my only 2 goals in life.
