The score from "Requiem for a Dream" is awesome. I've attempted to reproduce the tension and suspense on the piano but I hardly did it justice the way the strings do.

Anyone know where that comes from, or where I can listen to the whole thing as it's supposed to be heard?

Think About You is one of the best songs on the record, and one of only a couple that I don't remember ever getting burned out on hearing at some point. Paradise City for example, I need a ten-year break from that one. The little bit of acoustic guitar mixed in with the chorus and outro always stuck out for me. Definitely the best outro. It's not as dark or angry as some of the other tracks but fits the album well. The upbeat vibe kind of gives you a break from songs about heroin and dirty LA street life.

Whatever though - the album has 12 tracks and is 54 minutes long, there's room for a couple someone doesn't care for. If you're old enough to remember, a lot of bands around that time were putting out albums that weren't even 40 minutes long. Skid Row, Bon Jovi, LA Guns, Poison, Motley Crue were all doing it. In some cases, you'd barely get a half hour. GNR Lies was like that (but really that was just an EP, sort of). Just another good thing about AFD.

Come to think of it, the Illusion records were really long too. 152 minutes between the both of them now that I look. That's four albums and change for some of those other bands I mentioned. I'm not the biggest fan of Illusion 1 or 2 but there's some good stuff on them here and there.

I only mentioned it in that the other albums listed are all regular albums by a single artist, but the Singles Soundtrack is more of a compilation album with a fiar amount of material that was already listed.

But it still works and 20 years later still sounds fresh and still gets played a lot by me.

I don't think soundtracks should be excluded from this. I'd also pick Natural Born Killers soundtrack as well.

Speaking of soundtracks, Purple Rain. I don't know I'd quite call it perfect in the way I would Thriller but it's not too far off.

Another (non-soundtrack) I'd have to include is Raising Hell by Run-DMC. I can still remember all the songs on it. Most rap at that point was corny as hell with everybody rhyming **** like "walkin' down the street/a-rappin' to the beat," you had the Fat Boys, and people looking like something out of Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo. Run-DMC weren't the only ones to emerge and make something cohesive out of it but I think they did it the best at the time. It was definitely a breakthrough album for the entire rap genre. Rap went from kind of a mess to MTV almost overnight. I can't believe I forgot it the first time.

Sick choice there with Run-DMC. I always forget about them.

I'm not too familiar with Diamond Eyes. I might've heard a few songs here and there, but like I said, I'm not really a fan of them.

When FBD debuted at #1, it felt like a personal victory to me, and it is my personal favorite Pantera record. But I still pick VDoP as their "perfect album". Not a weak song, still fairly accessible to people who weren't really metal heads and instrumentally, including vocals, each member was in top form. It can go either way though. You could argue almost all of their main releases as damn near perfection.

I'm also a bit biased in that I saw Pantera 9 times before FBD ever came out and they were some of the best shows I've ever seen. Post-Heroin OD Phil never brought it again like he did back then and for a ton of legit reasons.

Yeah, the Phil argument is a valid point in VDPs favor for sure. I saw them only once, after Trendkill came out, and he was sub-par at best. Particularly anything that he had to sing on (This Love comes to mind).

I suppose it's pretty close either way.

Nah you guys are way off. FBD>Trendkill>Cowboys>Vulgar imo.

Phil sucked on vulgar. He tried to sound too tough instead of letting the anger flow through him. He's the reason that Vulgar is at the bottom of my list. Idgaf about how they sounded live after they had been drinking and drugging all day. The studio sound is what matters when judging perfect albums, and FBD blows them all away in that respect.

My opinion is unbiased because I didn't listen to them until 2000.

On another note, Dirt is the only album that hits home sometimes.

Firstly I don't think Pantera has a perfect album and their better material is spread across a few. That aside, Vulgar was their best and Phil sounded fine. FBD I liked...their better songs on that are as good as Vulgar I just think there's fewer of them. Didn't care much for Cowboys from Hell.
