I iz disappoint.

The blue album is great, but it's too polished. Kurt Cobain said about Nevermind that it was too polished, and I agree, and the sound he wanted out of his albums was captured on In Utero. I think Weezer's blue album and Pinkerton is similar. To me, grunge is raw and visceral. Studio polish is for hair metal and pop music, not grunge. The Blue album is just too damn polished, and Pinkerton is nice and raw. All that studio polish takes away feeling and energy. Just listen to this song.

That **** is so raw and has such a great energy and feel to it. It's not there on the blue album. But don't get me wrong, that album is really great too, I just think Pinkerton is better.

As far as the pumpkins ... well, Siamese Dream does have a really great sound, but I think Mellon Collie is a bit better. It's a much closer decision imo.

I like my neighbors so I don't blast lyrics like "SUCK IT , DRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !" often. Best drum outro ever imo.

My mother's basement. (not all of them, just me. Also I'm kidding, but I don't get out much!)

I'm gonna throw out Evil Empire as well. I'm not really big on their message, but **** if Rage can't throw out some awesome songs. That whole album was a smash all the way through.

Yeah Evil Empire is a great album. I love some rage ... even if we're on different political spectrums, them being Marxists and all.

I don't know about "perfect" but these are all about as close as I think you can get, for what they are (no order):

NIN - The Downward Spiral, but Pretty Hate could easily go here though they're quite different.
David Lee Roth - Eat 'em & Smile (bar none my favorite guitar on any album, ever.)
Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction (the perfect LA hard rock sound of the era)
Nirvana - Nevermind (some people dislike it, I think it's simple with great songs)
Faith No More - Angel Dust (just runs the gamut of styles and they all work)
Rammstein - Reise Reise (The german seems weird at first, but it stops mattering soon, this has been top five for me since I first heard it)
Counting Crows - August and... (songwriting off the charts)
Pink Floyd - The Wall (not in my top ten, but certainly perfectly executed concept)
Anthrax - Among the Living (completely solid pure 80s metal album, no filler)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (same as above)
Alice Cooper - Killer (a very cool, dark album, despite it's age very heavy in it's own way)
AC/DC - Back in Black (cliche, but it's them, and consistently good end to end)
Tool - Undertown (not the popular choice, but there isn't anything about it I don't like)
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (Moonage, Ziggy, Starman, etc etc etc)
Van Halen I - (Dropped out of my favorites, but all there stuff through 5150 was really uniquely theirs and done very consistently well. The first one's still the best)
Michael Jackson - Thriller (I'm not a pop guy so much but good lord the record was incredible for a top 40 type)
Radiohead - OK Computer
PJ Harvey - Rid of Me

G'N'R is a great choice. Thriller too

Bob Marley-Legend...Greatest album of all time imo. (I know its a greatest hits but idgaf)
Phish- Billy Breathes.
Pearl Jam- Ten. was a really good album, ever tho I am not a fan of anything else they did.
Nirvana- Unplugged. full of covers but still my favorite. Can listen to it over and over

In Utero is the GOAT Nirvana album.

You keep picking the wrong albums from bands Lirva.

Atleast you are picking good bands tho.

You guys are all wrong. Kurt Cobain himself even said Nevermind was too polished and In Utero was the sound he was going for.

Pretty Hate Machine
Tool - AEnema, because long live Bill Hicks
Undertow
Pixies - Trompe le monde because obviously Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are perfect, but it's perfect too.
Death to the Pixies
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon. Nobody needs to say anything to justify this ... no one who's heard it.
You got this one correct
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Lady Land. Jimi's peak.
Axis:Bold as Love.... although and argument could be made for Band of Gypsys
The Beatles - White Album. Their peak.
Correct... Abbey Road kicks ass too.
David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World. Amazing album.
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me. Beautiful album.
Frank Zappa - Zoot Allures. I love how dark sounding this album is.
Joe's Garage
Weezer - Pinkerton. Their best album by far imo. Love how pure and raw sounding it is.
Blue one
Shellac - 1000 Hurts. Seriously, listen to this album.
The Jesus Lizard - Goat. And this one.
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. Ooooooh oh oh ooooooh. What is love and what is hate????
The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. The world is a vampire.
Siamese Dream
Smoosh - Free To Stay. Still my favorite Smoosh album. Such a great sound and feeling to it. So simple, Asy on vocals and keyboard, and Chloe on drums, but you never get sick of hearing keyboards and drums because they rock it out and Chloe is so amazing at changing the feel of a beat in a heartbeat.
Also,
RATM first album ainec...not even close
Nirvana unplugged is one of the most chill albums ever. Perfect album to put on no matter what type of situation you are in.

I think your age is why you are getting these picks wrong. Had you been 5-10 years older, you would have made better choices

BTW, glad to see you back on 2+2 again. What did you do with all your time while you were gone?

Death to the pixies isn't even a studio album. It's a best-of compilation. That's just doing it wrong imo.

Isle of Wight > Band of Gypsies

Pretty Hate Machine is undeveloped NIN. The Downward Spiral is NIN finding their stride and running with the wind. Such a better album than PHS.

Undertow is great, but AEnema is one of the greatest albums of the 90s.

Hendrix's first three albums are all debatable and a case can be made for all of them.

Joe's Garage is great, but it's not his best work. His best work is obviously Apostrophe and Overnight Sensation, and One Size Fits All and Absolutely Free are up there too, and all are perfect albums, as is Wakka/Jawakka.

If the Blue album is Weezer's best, and that's the pinnacle of their sound, why did they have similar feelings as Kurt Cobain did with Nevermind? Why did they do this?

Quote:
To assist in capturing the group's live sound, Weezer decided against hiring a producer for Pinkerton.
...

Weezer decided against hiring a producer, feeling that "the best way for us to sound like ourselves is to record on our own."[16] The band hoped to explore "deeper, darker, more experimental stuff"[11] which would better resemble the band's live sound.[17] To give the album a live, "raw" feel, Cuomo, Bell and bassist Matt Sharp recorded their vocals in tandem around three microphones rather than overdubbing them separately.

The fact of the matter is, Weezer, like Nirvana, felt like their debut album didn't portray their band as they really were, and sounded too polished. For this reason, Pinkerton and In Utero are better albums. They do a better job of capturing how the bands really sounded.

Good call on The Chronic, though I'd go the first one.

There is rarely any obviously when it comes to Zappa, though OSFA is in his top 5.
